News: Son of Beast likely to stay closed until 2007

Posted at 3:10 PM EDT (1910 GMT)

Aug. 24th, 2006 -- Despite running tests with water dummies, state officials say Son of Beast will likely remain closed through the 2006 season.

The wooden roller coaster has been closed since an incident on July 9th, when a portion of the structure weakened, causing injuries to 27 riders. The Ohio Department of Agriculture, who oversees ride inspections in Ohio, says the investigation into the ride is nowhere near complete.

^ Must have never ridden it. he he ;)

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Cedar Fair scraps it at some point because it's such a waste of money.

You could build two or three really nice GCII's with all that wood.

Yeah I agree, but it's not going to happen. Like said it was a huge investment, Cedar Fair would rather try to refurbish it then scrap it. But if the world was fiction, BURN BABY BURN.

Yeah if CP is going to keep Mean Streak for what seems like forever, you know Son of Beast isn't going anywhere.

If for nothing more than having the record of tallest and fastest woodie.

For sure not my fave coaster, but it will stay. That thing has been a disaster from the get. You could build a couple of houses and another coaster with all that wood. I will have to admit though: Even though it's a bad ride YOU HAVE to go at least look at it. It's a big structure. MASSIVE!

I got the fortune of riding it in a sleet storm in November. Nothing like it. I recomend trying a sleet ride at least once. I did that on Alpengeist once too, but it only added to the theming.

^ Like Texas A&M, right?

Yeah, this really is one SOB. Definitely not worth keeping. And hey, all Mean Streak needs is a little...ok, a LOT, of work, but it's still rideable. This thing was too much to handle.

I just don't know what to think about Son of Beast. It's just....I don't know. People who've ridden it know exactly what I am talking abou too.
