News: Six Flags salutes National Guard with free admission

Posted at 12:36 PM EDT (1636 GMT)

Sep. 2nd, 2006 -- Via Press Release

As part of its alliance with the National Guard, Six Flags, the world's leading regional theme park company, is offering active members of the Guard free general admission one-day tickets to any US-based Six Flags theme park during the month of September.

The offer is valid for the Soldier, and up to three dependants. If a Soldier is on active duty (overseas or deployed), the spouse can use his/her dependant card to take advantage of the offer.

Active members of the National Guard will find a list of participating parks at http://www.sixflags.com/nationalguard, where they can also print out a voucher for their free admission. Park hours and operating calendars vary by park and are subject to change. The offer is limited to one voucher per Soldier during the September promotion.

Wow that's really nice that Six Flags would do that. That is the step in the right direction for the company.

Why not the active military too like Busch Gardens and Sea World too...and why only for one month? I see this as a step in the right direction, just not a great one a families now have kids back in schools which makes it harder to travel to one unless they are close by...

Quite frankly I dont like the idea at all. I am active duty Army and I think it is discrimination against other services. We all are fighting for the same team, but why is National Guard the only one to get in free? Granted I have a season pass, so it wouldnt matter regardless, but Im looking at others who dont have a season pass. Like Komatz said, it should be for all services just like Busch Gardens and Sea World.

I don't know I didn't think of that why is it only for National Guard. I wonder if maybe the other services will be next month. Or they just forgot I don't know. Now that you brought that up this is a horrible idea if they are going to let one service in they should let all of them.

And thats what I was saying, the military, now matter what branch, or full, reserve, should have the same treatment...What pisses me off more is that Disney and Universal do not do this , as well as other parks...Hence why AB parks do care more for our srevice men and women and their families....They all protect our freedom, lets let them enjoy the time with their families because the could be shipped out at any time.

^Well I guess it's just one more thing the Six Flags company is doing wrong. (Other thing being all the park closings and sellings).

Let's give Six Flags some credit...at least they're doing something. They could do more, true, but at least it's something.

Sorry Thunderhawk, but I wont give them any credit on this one. Try being in a Soldiers shoes and then come talk to me about this "bright" idea they have...

^As someone with two ex-soldiers in his immediate family, I think there's much better gripes to hold against companies for their injustices to soldiers, such as how some banks have a practice of charging soldiers inactivity fees when they are sent oversees. So perhaps Six Flags could do more, but show me other businesses doing alot for soldiers too.

I mean, at least they're doing some things for some members of our defense...isn't that better than nothing?

^ in all honestly, no...why exclude active military and reserves...being from an Army family, this leaves out the Navy, Air Force and Marines, plus you can add Coast Guard...the thing you said about the banks is true, that is crap that some do it...But if your gonna give to the military and its families, do it for all branches...

Atleast they are doing something is all they can say. Yes they could do more, maybe the next month might be for the marines and so on, but what if they didn't do anything.

^^I'm not saying you don't have a valid point, you do. But I still think this is better than nothing, but apparently others don't share my viewpoint.

It is better than nothing but it still is kind of unfair.
