News: Historic Pleasureland Amusement Park closing

Posted at 10:48 PM EDT (0248 GMT)

Sep. 7th, 2006 -- Southport's Pleasureland Amusement park is set to close due to a decline in attendance.

In 2004, the park spent approximately $2.5 million on a new attraction.  The park blames the decline in attendance on increased participation in things such as sporting events and weekend shopping.

The park opened in 1913 with two rides - a slide and a figure-eight roller coaster.  In 1924, the park relocated from the Kings Garden area to Marine Drive.

The entire story can be found here.

Wow that's kind of sad to see a theme park go. I have never been there but from the database link it doesn't look like it had very many rides.
