Sep. 7th, 2006 -- Southport's Pleasureland Amusement park is set to close due to a decline in attendance.
In 2004, the park spent approximately $2.5 million on a new attraction. The park blames the decline in attendance on increased participation in things such as sporting events and weekend shopping.
The park opened in 1913 with two rides - a slide and a figure-eight roller coaster. In 1924, the park relocated from the Kings Garden area to Marine Drive. The entire story can be found here.
