News: Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom to expand Hurricane Bay water park

Posted at 4:52 AM EDT (0852 GMT)

Sep. 19th, 2006 -- This winter, Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom plans to makeover their Hurricane Bay water park with an expansion that will increase the size of the park up to fifteen percent. In addition to the expansion, the water park will acquire a new name.

The multi-million dollar investment includes an interactive play area for toddlers; numerous private cabanas which guests will be able to rent for the day; repaint of all structures and facades, as well as a new water ride attraction that's described as "a first of its kind in the region" that will employ "cutting-edge technology."

According to Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom General Manager Jay Thomas, the new water ride, which is slated to open Memorial Day 2007, isn’t currently in use at any other Six Flags property. Construction begins in October.

"We’re going to give the water park a whole new look," said Thomas.

I'll put down $5 that the new name will be "Hurricane Harbor." :)

So besides being the in the middle of the property will it now take up a chunk of a side of the park as well?

There's not much but sidewalk and games on the wavepool side so I bet that's where they are expanding. I just visited there for the first time this summer and I think the wave pool is one of the best I've ever been to. The waves are high and long-lasting and I can't wait to see what they are adding there. I'd definitely go again next year, especially considering the discount coupons that my company gets.

My name is up in lights.

Anything new for SFKK is good in my book.

It's good to see the park getting something for 2007. Can't say I'm thrilled it's not going to get me to drive across country for the park. but it should prove popular with the locals. they don't seem to have much of a water park at this time.

Lets hear it for SFKK's hurricane harbor.

I have never been to the park. But this sounds like a good addition. And I would love to go there some time. Hopefully I will get to in the next few years.

Finally, its about time that something gets thrown in SFKK's direction, we dont get much to look forward too. Hopefully, more is to follow with this expansion, Kentucky Kingdom has grown to be so disapointing and rather boring to visit. I just hope my future experiences can be more pleasant, and maybe this waterpark expansion will help do that. Im curious to see whats going to be added and how thier going about in doing it. From my perspective, its gonna be very interesting and I cant wait to see the final product.
