News: Renegade twisting its way into Valleyfair! in 2007

Posted at 1:55 AM EDT (0555 GMT)

Sep. 21st, 2006 -- For the 2007 season, Valleyfair! will introduce Renegade, the second wooden roller coaster installation at the park since High Roller made its debut in 1976. It will mark itself as Valleyfair!'s eighth overall roller coaster.

Designed and manufactured by wooden coaster design and manufacturing firm Great Coasters International, Renegade will feature an opening drop of 91-feet and speeds of up to 52 miles per hour.

On its 3,113-feet of track, thrill-seekers will careen around highly banked track sections, a low-to-the-ground high speed "S-turn" and a station fly-by. After two hair-raising minutes, riders will have experienced a total of 10 cross-overs and 19 turns. The ride is described as "combing the best features of out-and-back and twister coasters."

There will be two 24-passenger trains, with four riders per car and six cars per train

"There won’t be a dull moment on this ride," said Alan Schwartz, Valleyfair’s vice president and general manager. "This will be a lively, smooth ride and an exciting addition to our collection of roller coasters."

Renegade Specifications

Maximum Height: 104-feet

^ Finally? Oh, come on, 3 or 4 years without a new coaster isn't that bad... at least there's another GCI in the world, those things rule.

Wow! That thing seems almost Voyage-like in its pacing! It seems a little short, but definitly promising. I definitly have to find a way to get to Valleyfair! soon. I just hope they don't slap trims into this ride after a couple of seasons.
