News: Silver Dollar City will swing in 2007

Posted at 3:25 PM EDT (1925 GMT)

Oct. 18th, 2006 -- Via Press Release:

New in '07! Silver Dollar City sends your family soaring on an All-NEW adventure – The GIANT Swing!  Launch through the barn doors at an immediate 45mph and burst over 7 stories into the sky as you fly a full 230 degrees from one side of the barn to the other. Seated back-to-back on two giant pendulum arms, the sky is the limit!

This is not the old-fashioned knotted rope barn swing of your youth. Natural innovators, the Wilson family has enhanced their favorite pastime into a fantastic flying machine that has literally blown the
doors off the barn! If you’re brave enough to open your eyes, you’ll get a bird’s eye view of the NEW Great Barn and beyond!

Swing by and see why everyone has a little farmer in them … the need for survival, the surge of acceleration and the rush of back-to-back Gs.
Farm life has never been so thrilling!

  • Height -   7.5 stories
  • Capacity -  700 passengers per hour
  • Maximum Speed -   45 miles per hour

Visit Silver Dollar City for more information.

How many parks are going to have one of these by 07? These things are popping up all over the place! Not that they shouldnt' be but I can think of some way better flats at a lower cost that I wish parks would get everywhere, yet these Screamin Swings are going around. Sky Hawk actually impressed me a lot, but where are the Topscans at people?? lol. I think it's cool how they are theming this one. It's definitly unique and will fit right in with the park very nicely.

What an original name! Sounds fun, is it going to be a pay ride?

Yeah, they could have called it anything but "Giant swing".

How about Barnstormer?

Huh? I think that's a bit of an improvement!

^^A pay ride? What are you talking about?

At Herschend parks your addmission includes all shows, craft showcases, rides, attractions and festivals. So no after you pay your addmission this will be free for you to ride.

This sounds like a really cool ride. I hope I get to ride it. And it has some very creative theming. Not a creative name but very creative theming. But who knows the name could still change before it opens.

^ Many parks installed screaming swings as upcharge attractions.

By the way, there is a screaming swing in Pigeon Forge already! It's a small version, but it's right down the strip on the right past the Dollywood turn off.

^Were past the turn off? As in what is the name of the place it's at?

And when you say upcharge you mean that you have to pay seperate just to ride it?

^ Yes, upcharge rides are when you have to pay extra to ride. Like skycoasters at SFOG or Carowinds.

Also...

I tried to find them online, but they don't seem to have a website.

I don't even know what the place is called either. lol

But if you were leaving Dollywood Ln, turn right (like you were leaving Dollywood and getting back on the parkway/strip).

The screamin' swing is on the right about 1/2 a mile up.

The guy that operates it knows me now because I've ridden it so many times. He's a great guy and will usually give you free rides sometimes (like it's normally $20, he'll give it to you for 10 and then let you ride free a time or two more).

If you need more info feel free to PM me.

^Alright thanks.

But I don't think that Silver Dollar City would charge for any attraction like this. It's just not what the Herschend's do in their parks.

Good to see they're getting a new ride. i guess I have to retract my statement about these rides not able to be themed. Not a bad look.

anyways look at the set up. If it was going to be an upcharge, they would get a 2 seat per arm version not a 16 seat per arm version. I also doubt they would spend the time to themeing it.

Psht, come on, of course it won't be up-charge...

I mean, the Hershends are going out on a limb just to build a big ride, they woudn't go overboard and charge people for it.
