News: Cedar Fair to change to entertainment company

Posted at 6:38 PM EST (2338 GMT)

Nov. 1st, 2006 -- On October 25th, Cedar Fair, based in Sandusky, announced that it plans to call itself Cedar Fair Entertainment Co. from then on.

Despite the name change, legally, the company will remain Cedar Fair LP. The head of investor relations, Stacy Frole, stated that all future business will be performed with the new name, a name suggested at a board meeting after the company purchased Paramount Parks this past June.

The company has said it will discuss the name change in its conference call with industry analysts tomorrow, November 1.
According to Ms. Frole, "Cedar Fair LP doesn’t really describe what we are anymore. We're more than just amusement parks. We're also live shows, Halloweekends, restaurants, hotels, promotions, and water parks."

I never did like the sound of L.P. but I didn't really care. What exactly did L.P. stand for any way?

^Ok thanks for telling me.

Although when did Limited Partnership ever "really describe" what Cedar Fair was?

Ahhhh. I never knew what the L.P. stood for either. Thsi is interesting. When I read the title I thought it meant they were changing a lot more than just the name.

L.P. is a certain classification of business. You don't buy shares of stock in Cedar Fair, L.P., you buy units of partnership. These trade exactly like stock, only I believe all net cash after money reserved for improvements and running the company must be paid back to shareholders in the form of a dividend.

The other thing that a limited partnership does is protect the partners in terms of liability. They are only liable for the amount they have invested. This differs from a regular partnership in which any liability is divided equally.

They are growing so a chance in the Company name makes sense. The LP worked when it was a smaller group of Partnered parks. But they have grown allot since then.
