News: Six Flags Over Texas to introduce new world-class show in 2007

Posted at 3:37 PM EST (2037 GMT)

Nov. 13th, 2006 -- Via Press Release

On the heels of its 45th anniversary season, Six Flags Over Texas today announced its plan to unveil a world-class spectacle of lights, sounds, imagery and unprecedented showmanship in an original production to debut on June 16, 2007 for 65 consecutive nights , exclusively at Six Flags Over Texas.

Next summer, Six Flags Over Texas guests will be amazed, mesmerized and electrified by the park's new stage extravaganza, Cirque Dreams Coobrila! "Cirque Dreams Coobrila will be like no other show we’ve ever presented at Six Flags Over Texas," said Steve Calloway, vice president and general manager of the company's flagship park. "This is exactly the kind of world-class entertainment our guests have been looking for — an escape that will transport them to another place and time. It will, quite simply, take their breath away!"

Cirque Dreams Coobrila will come to life in the 10,000-seat Music Mill Amphitheatre under the sultry Texas nighttime sky. The theater will be completely transformed and reconfigured with multiple stages and performance runways designed to connect the performers with the audience in an intimate and totally engaging experience. High above the theatre, an elaborate truss structure will accommodate special effects, brilliant illuminations and amazing displays of aerial artistry.

The word "Coobrila" was created by combining three key descriptive elements of the show — the outdoor performances will be presented at night when temperatures are COOler...illumination effects throughout the park BRIghter…and park operating hours LAter to maximize guest enjoyment. These elements also fuel the three principal characters of this new Cirque Dreams attraction.

"Cirque Dreams Coobrila is a fantastical journey into a world of imagination," said Neil Goldberg, producer and artistic director of Cirque Productions. "In the Coobrila dream, three personalities reign supreme…the 'cooler', the 'brighter' and the 'later'. When aligned under the light of a bright new moon, their inventive antics and acrobatic adventures will unfold to inspire, entertain and amaze audiences, bringing them to their feet, cheering and chanting 'Coobrila, Coobrila!'”

An international cast will perform this original production and showcase their diverse talents along with Cirque Productions' signature style of wildly bizarre and creative costumes, original music and unlimited imagination, all blended together to create the world of Cirque Dreams Coobrila, presented exclusively at Six Flags Over Texas!

To complement the Cooler, Brighter, Later elements of Cirque Dreams Coobrila, Six Flags Over Texas will remain open until 11 p.m. this summer. Late Nights at Six Flags will light up the night with lasers,  sky trackers and thousands of twinkling lights all over the park, plus an evening parade, jugglers, street dancers and high-energy bands.

This is such and obvious attack at Disney's Cirque du Soleil.

You think!!!

It's good to see them expanding the show line up but seems a bit extreme for a show you only show once a night. They need shows you can see through the day and perhaps ad to a few other parks.

This reminds me of Sea World Texas' "Riptide" show that has similar 'Cirque-ish' elements... The "Coobrilla" is a weird mish-mash of those words...

I think this is fantastic. The Music Mill is freakin huge, and they need a big show to attract people to it every night. You would be wasting your time trying to entertain in that facility unless you were drawing in mega crowds. A show that runs several times a day is going to draw obsolete crowds in a 10,000 seat theater.

Who says they are attacking anything? Just because they are finally rising to the challenge doesn't mean it's an attack. The shows are even from the same company are they not? Besides, Disney did not create Crique du Soleil. They have been around for years, long before they ever performed for Disney. They have several shows that travel the world. Disney was lucky to get them. They do not belong to Disney by ANy means. I love how people want to talk about how crappy SF is, and then when they make a positive move, people want to criticize them and say they are trying to be like someone else.

Sorry if I seem like I'm going on a tyrade here. I'm not trying to be snippy, just thorough. :o)

This is a great move. These types of shows are in Orlando. Las Vegas, and has been touring across the country. Why not join in the sensation?

Good idea! People love this type of stuff and will like it even better when they find it at a theme park!

I think this is a wise move. Six Flags Fiesta Texas has for years had it's Lone Star Spectacular show at the end of each day...as well as their amazing Halloween show in October each night. I think if this show is as good as they promise it will be, folks will stay all day to watch it instead of going home early. Cirque-type shows are still extremely popular and I think it is a great idea for Six Flags to have a permanent show like this.
