News: Mall of America to add Gerstlauer Eurofighter

Posted at 8:08 PM EST (0108 GMT)

Nov. 27th, 2006 -- Officials for the Mall of America facility in Bloomnington, Minnesotta, have announced expansion plans. Dubbed Phase II, the $1 billion expansion will include improvements to the amusement park within the mall.

The Park at MOA will recieve approximately $25 million in new attractions over the next year and a half, including a Gerstlauer Eurofighter. Only the second Eurofighter announced so far in the United States, the park plans to have the ride open sometime in 2008.

Formerly known as Camp Snoopy, the Park at MOA has been operated by the mall since January, after management decided to abandon Cedar Fair. The last roller coaster addition was 2004's Timberland Twister, also from Gerstlauer.

^That link won't work. You need to go to the regular Kare 11 news page and click on the link there.

I think this was probably the last thing I expected. I'm so excited to ride this thing in 2008!

$1 Billion is a pooh load of money! That is incredible! $25 million is a lot too for a park that size. Do they really have the room for another coaster in there? Why did they ditch Cedar Fair anyway?

Could someone post a picture of a Eurofighter? I don't remember what one of these looks like...

You can go to www.mysterymine.com or the Dollywood 2007 thread to see what one looks like. At least in the construction process.

Or rcdb.com. You can search by manufacturer and model.

Isn't a euro fighter VERY similar to the Timberland Twister they already have?

No it isn't. The only thing that looks the same (and probably is) is the way the track looks like... A Gerstlauer Euro Fighter has a drop of 95 degrees. And it is NOT a spinning coaster. All Euro Fighters that are build have at least 2 inversions. So there are big differences...

^Not quite. Vild Svinet, the first Euro Fighter ever built has only one inversion - a vertical loop (unless you count the first drop as an inversion, which you really shouldn't).

My guess is that The Park at MOA had a two-coaster deal with Gerstlauer.

Awesome! The euro fighter looks great and T.T. is super smooth and fairly intense.
I think the c.f. was afraid of attracting teenagers and stayed away from "big rides".

I wonder what they will do with it. It'd be cool if they built it way up into the ceiling or something. lol

Here is a link to page/video of the expansion, it shows the coaster layout too in the video! It looks pretty small though.

I think this is a great expansion but I wonder if they will get any more rides besides the Euro-Fighter.

I heard something about an Intamin Halfpipe coaster... Which would fit the park. I've been there ALOT of times. Ever since I was 5 i've been going there.

^Yeah, someone said they might add an Intamin Halfpipe where the center fountain is now. I don't think there's room there. At least not with the clearance Ripsaw needs with its turn right next to it.
I bet they put in a drop ride where the center fountain is now.

Hm... I don't think a drop ride would go. And i've changed my mind. A halfpipe would be way too big for that park. A a 1 billion $ expansion might do the trick...

I dunno... They have alot of thrill rides. I think a thrill coaster (like a halfpipe) would go better... We'll just see in the future I guess...
