Not a big surprise, but still it's kind of strange to know the loop will be gone.
Maybe they will get PTC trains for it now.

NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
This is about the saddest development I could ever have expected. Seriously...they can't figure out a way to keep the loop intact? That seems so stupid.

YAAAAAAAYYYYYYY!!!! Who can be the resident Thrillnetwork DJ of our Son Of Beast Renovation party? I'm sure plenty of people would have rather lost the ride completely but this is a cool development I'm willing to join Cedar Fair in experimenting with. Engineering analysis, renovations, inspections - Go ahead. Different more traditional wooden coaster trains may help. Now what to do with an extra Premier loop? Add to Flight of Fear? haha.
I rode the Son with the loop. It was a neat gimmick but the Gods have spoken: Loops do not belong on woodies.

Sounds like good news for Son of Beast, its future is looking brighter already. Perhaps, with the renovations it will one day be actually enjoyable, instead of being painful and extremely rough. Im not too sure if it will be an entirely better experience, but Im hopeful that it will.

It's odd though, because without a loop, the ride looks like a bunch of helicies. And being made by RCCA, this will be just like the RCCA coaster in Madrid. And that coaster, having Intamin pre-fab trains, is still rough. Nothing can make this coaster smoother.

What an excellent move...It'll still be rough, but maybe they'll put some tolerable trains on it.

Wow, that is really, really weird. But I guess I would sacrifice the loop, which wasn't really that impressive anyway knowing that its a steel loop and the trains are modified to transition from wood to steel track, for a more confortable ride.

Awe come on people! The loop was the ride's shining moment! Loops CAN go on woodies, and the fact that the inversion was the only good part of this ride proves it. I realize that by removing the loop, they can use different trains, but it was the smoothest part of the coaster. The ride will be a total yawn without it. I would think they could have lighter trains with the same restraint system to allow the good part of the coaster to remain. I just don't see why they have to remove the smoothest part of the coaster in order to make it smoother.

This is horrible news. I was waiting for the summer to come around so I would be at PKI and get to ride this again. Sure, I was hurt a bit on the ride, but it was still fun.
The loop was the best part of the ride.
At least I got two rides on it...

Who a big surprise! I guess a good move though. We will see next season!
I say it won't change much, even with new trains. The ride is way TOO DRAWN OUT!! Such a yawn.

Aww, I wanted to ride it with the loop still on it.
I guess not.
I doubt we'll be seeing another one of these...

I'm very interested in what they will be doing with the track where the loop was. They will have to line things up since the trains exited the loop to the left of where they entered it, and the fact that the base of the drop into the loop is further back from where the track goes up into the second helix. Seems like a little zig zag bunny hop could fill in the gap making that spot once again the rides best moment, but we'll see. They may reconstruct the entire stretch from the midcourse to the second helix. I can't wait to see what they do.

Maybe it will be worth it in the long term,I'm willing to give SOB another shot. Now,are they going to keep the Premier trains,or are they going to do a major overhaul with the trains.

If they put PTCs on it (which I'm hoping they do), then it could make this ride a LOT better.
The trains killed my legs last summer (05). It beat the crap out of me!

Having never been to Ohio and it's parks. I'm a bit disappointed. i wanted to ride Son of Beast in it's Original form. The coasters design is very limited. in turn without the look the coasters Seems plain. at least the loop gave it something. I'll ride it when I get out there but I don't think i will enjoy it as much.

For me it's both good and bad news.
This overall is a good idea. Sure the loop was fun, but it didn't make up for the ride you had to endure before and after it. Going along with that, everytime I rode SOB, I prayed for the loop to come, but now I will have the chance enjoy the coaster more as a whole. The bad news is, the Son of Beast legend somewhat fades away. It will never be the same again and the people that experienced it, will talk about it's extreme roughness like folklore. It also sucks for the people that have not ridden it, as it is an important part of roller coaster history, and I doubt another looping wood coaster will come around for a very long, long, long time.
Edit: OMG I just realized they'll probably put on Gerstlauer trains, as that is the usual "lighter train." If so, this ride will be twice as rough as it was before, and quite possibly the roughest coaster in modern day roller coaster history. And I would be there opening day with shinguards and a mouth piece to ride it.
