News: Magic Mountain to remain open

Posted at 3:01 PM EST (2001 GMT)

Dec. 13th, 2006 -- In June, Six Flags announced that it was considering selling several park, including Magic Mountain. Yesterday, Chief Executive Mark Shapiro says that he wants to keep Magic Mountain as an amusement park, though he has not ruled out selling it to another park operator. A decision whether to sell the park will be decided by year's end.

Six Flags also announced new plans to boost family attendance at its amusement parks, including licensing deals with children's entertainment group The Wiggles, the Thomas the Tank Engine franchise, a partnership with Cold Stones Creamery, and discounts for season passes.

The company is hoping that these deals can help pull Six Flags out of its slumping financial state. Attendance decreased 14 percent this year from 2005 with a two percent drop in revenue.

YES! Go Magic Mountain. I knew I would hear good news sooner or later. This is pretty good news and I can't wait to see what happens.

Oh my gosh! I am so relieved. I'm not kidding here, I would have had a total melt down if SFMM was razed. Just the thought of it made me want to panic and cry. Hurray! She lives!!

I have never been there but I'm glad that it is going to stay open as a theme park no matter what. Because I would hate to see another theme park that people seem to love close.

Glad to hear it will remain open, but thats not to say they don't have a lot of work to do. I could list proabobly 100 things they gotta do to this park to make it get 100% of its true potential...

Well, they made a lot of good improvements while Tatsu was being built. It seems the park is really trying to pick up and go for the better these days. If they keep it up, I'd say in about three years it will be a pretty kick place.

Yes and now that its remaining open, they really are serious in taking action. First of which is trying to sell Superman The Escape. Also, X should be back up next month. Hopefully the trains on X are improved to make them last longer than usual. Scream's parking lot scenery should be transformed. Freefall may be removed, but while its there, enjoy it. Ditto on thrillshot. Flashback's future is still uncertain, even thought most know, and wish, that it would go. Only time will tell...

Superman won't be the only Ride put up for sale. they will get some rides out and You will some a few changes with hopes of raising the value. They will keep the park up for sale. But unless they turn things around they will be putting all there parks up for sale.

Why is Freefall for sell? What...?
Good though. MM is fun. I don't care what losers say. I'd rather hit that then Disneyland and CA adventure anyday.

Wahooo!!! Not only is this my favorite park, but I live right down the street and would be seriously bummed if it closed! Boo, rampant real estate development. Hooray, beer - I mean theme parks!
