Well, unless they replace this with a 500 foot intamin strata, this is one of the dumbest moves ever made.

Superman is one of the most overrated rides of all time. Combine that with the fact it sucks out a ton of energy, it's a smart sell.

^ There's a huge catch with such a cheap asking price. Anybody want to lay it out? No? Okay, I'll do it.
In addition to the 125K, the buyer has to pay for labor and equipment rental costs involved with dismantling, relocation, and rebuild.
In order to rebuild it, the buyer then also needs to find an undeveloped linear path on a property that's over 1,300-feet long to accomodate the ride's track path.
But all before that, the buyer has make sure wherever he or she (or they) place the ride, the city and county has suitable zoning height laws to allow a 415-foot ride to be built.
Then when the ride is all put back together, they now have to worry about the outrageous electricity bill that will be sent their way every month for operating this power-hungry beast.
If anything, 125K is not unreasonable to ask for this ride. All the steps above could eventually cost this ride's buyers MILLIONS more than the ride is actually worth. I mean, for crying out loud, in industry terms, it's a 10-year old outdated launched coaster. :)

If it is indeed sold I think Magic Mountain would lose a huge icon ride thats been in place there for a long time. I'm not saying S:TE is great or anything, but for what it was when I rode it, it was fun and pretty amazing. Bear in mind what this coaster did back in the day in 1997, I think a lot of people don't give it the credit it deserves....

Whos going to buy this thing? I mean really, I can't think of a single place that would want to buy it. 20 Bucks says it ends up being sold for scrap steel. (and with all that steel, that would still get them a fair amount of money)

I'm not at all of any opinion to the fate of this ride. The footprint is not 1,300 feet in length however. I'm pretty sure the footprint is only 900 ft, but yes, that is still a pretty long run. I really doubt anyone will buy it. Besides decorating the park's skyline, it really doesn't do much for the place. I realize it's signifigance, but I just don't think it is any longer ecenomic for the park to keep it. What I really want to know is why Flashback is not the first thing we are seeing removed from the park. Maybe the money they get from SM will get it into restoration? Why is that junker still sitting in the park?

I give the ride 6 months before it is dismantled and scraped. It's not worth the extra cost on top of the 125,000 for the ride. it's old news and will do little good for the next park. and don't expect a Strata coaster in it's place. remember no more 20 million coasters for SFI.

^^ Well, Flashback is definitely on the chopping block for scrap metal --- it's in no condition to be sold to another operator. In Superman's case, Six Flags is attempting to generate some kind of cash from the ride's removal before making a decision about having it taken out.

So instead of selling the park, they will just sell what is in the park. Hmm.

I'm not too sad that it's selling. Not only do you have height/lenght issues with moving it, but does anyone else think its extremely loud? I was uncomfortable standing under the base everytime it launched. That, combined with energy costs (particularly in CA), I think it's a great move.

This is really not a mistake? It's not the Freefall wrapped up by Riddler's Revenge? The ride's best chance is to end up in an oil rich country. The ride is so long it could have a windfarm erected along its length. The ride was outdated years ago. It's soo loud; it's a shame.

Superman's really not that fun of a ride, and besides that, it's a power hog. I don't even go on it anymore when I go to Magic Mountain.
Now, all we have to do is hope that someone buys it....

Regardless of all the extended expenses that would go in with buying it, $125,000 is quite a steal for what was once one of the most talked about thrill rides in the world.

I'm actually sad to hear this. I've got my credits for both sides of Superman, but taking it out is like taking a piece of Magic Mountain. If you look, Magic Mountain hasn't REMOVED a coaster since Shockwave...which was back in the 80's. They probably will end up dismantling it and taking it out, and you can't really say that it holds any records any more, but its still not great news...IMO

This is possibly 1 of the dumbest moves SFMM has ever made if they don't get a coaster that tops 500 ft in the next couple of years i'm probably never going back to SFMM ever again.

Those crying about its sale (even going as far as saying "I'm probably never going back to SFMM ever again")... I would like to see you try to run a ride of that caliber, with high energy prices (this is California after all), and high maintenance costs. Seriously, listen to yourselves... you sound like children!
If my favorite park did the same thing with Top Thrill Dragster... I sure wouldn't be crying and saying the same things. It doesn't hold any real records anymore, it's like taking a piece of Cedar Point, and of course, they haven't removed a coaster since 1978 (they've removed other rides and attractions though). Y'all need to understand things from their perspective. If you even want a park to go to, decisions like that have to be made, and sometimes you just have to cut your losses and move on.
Just look at this fact... Intamin has sold zero of those rides since 1997, and only two exist. So, that tells me that type was less successful than most of it's other coasters in the long run.

What tha...! This is so weird. I can understand why they are doing it, like mentioned above, but it just seems so random. Especially piled upon all the other news.
