News: Alton Towers' restaurants fail inspection

Posted at 11:11 AM EST (1611 GMT)

Jan. 4th, 2007 -- Yesterday a report was released stating that 15 of the 19 restaurants at Alton Towers theme park failed inspection.

The park’s KFC and McDonald’s were given orders to clean up their act. The KFC Katanga take-out restaurant was the worst - where hygiene was so bad it did not meet legal requirements.  It is closed and will remain that way until spring.

The report also claimed that the parks own staff restaurant did not meet standards.

An Alton Towers spokesman said the outlets run by the park itself needed only a few minor improvements.

He added: "We are disappointed by one of the independent franchise units and will make sure they comply with requirements."

Remind me not to eat in Alton Towers if I go. That is not cool at all.

How do you fail, I mean wouldn't you notice a bad atmosphere?

Wow, this is a few years too late, I remember ordering a hamburger from a McDonald's over by Nemesis back in 2002 and receiving one of the most God-awful things I have ever seen. I should have complained to the restaurant workers or some form of park management, but the park was so crowded and so miserable that day, I just wanted to leave as quick as possible.

That's sad when 15 of only 19 places fail. How horrible does this parks cleanliness have to be to fail 15 times.

/ Please remember that it is the KFC franchise which has been hit the most - and if you saw any KFC over here you would sort of understand - and to their credit on the busiest part of the season last year (the fireworks) they closed imidiatly to resolve the problems.

Well even if it's a franchise the park should still check it to make sure that it is up to standards if it on there property to make sure they don't get bad coverage for the franchises fault. So the KFC failing is just a much the parks fault as the franchises fault.

They have to try harder. Only 15 out of a possible 19 is unacceptable.

That is pretty nasty. I wouldn't really expect that from a theme park of this size.
