News: Woman claims assault at Universal Studios

Posted at 2:58 AM EST (0758 GMT)

Jan. 7th, 2007 -- On January 3, 2007 a woman claimed she had been sexually battered, beaten and threatened while in line for the "Revenge of the Mummy" attraction at the Florida theme park.

It has been reported that the 32-year-old woman told Orlando law officials that she approached a man she thought was a park employee and said that she was looking for the entrance of the ride. The man then told her to follow him.

According to the police report, the man then grabbed her and dragged her to an emergency exit hallway, where the man then threw her to the ground. The police also said that she had said she screamed for help and that the man had told her he was going to take her life.

The police report also says that he held her down and sexually battered her, while she continued to scream. The man then grabbed her and began repeatedly smashing her forehead into the ground. She continued fighting until she was able to escape.

Tom Schroder, Universal Orlando spokesman, has announced that the park is and will continue cooperating fully with the investigation.

According to Schroder, "Nothing is more important to us than the safety and well being of our guests. We want our guests to be safe and feel safe while they're here."

Now that is insane. After something like that it's amazing the guy was not caught. How scary is that that this could happen in one of the busiest places on earth? You would never think you would be in danger of something like that in such a populated environment. This is aweful. I just hope it isn't a lie. She is not holding the park responsible is she?

It's strange no place is completely safe from people that just flip out. But I agree that the person involved should have been caught quickly. Why was there a door so easily accessible from outside with no lock to keep people out? Why did this person ask just anyone. Was he wearing a universal Employee shirt? Just sounds a bit off.

^Well the report says that she approached him thinking he was an employee so I guess he didn't look like a normal person and who knows he could have worked there or he could just have gotten a employee costume to wear somehow which really wouldn't be to difficult.

I just spent the day at the park and rode the Mummy through the Single Riders line and where the emergency exit is located a Security Officer was standing. Both the Express and Single Riders line are together at this point, but they are separate from the stand-by line. This would make it hard for anyone to hear anyone screaming behind the doors.

I just thought it was interesting that Security is stationed at the spot now...
