News: Bell's amusement park sells ride to county

Posted at 5:24 PM EST (2224 GMT)

Jan. 17th, 2007 -- Bell's Amusment decided to sell their highest grossing ride in history to Tulsa County. The ride will be moved to the Tulsa State Fair and will continue to operate.

Robbie Bell the President of the park said, "The sale was very reasonable. It (the sale) will help us a little in our ability to move the park."

The sale is still subject to review by the authorities legal counsel.

The Sky Ride was installed in 1966 at the fair, which was the the highest grossing ride.  Bell's bought the ride five years later and had it in operation ever since. The route takes passengers over top of the fairgrounds and carries up to 1,000 people per hour.

This made my stomach jump when I read the title. I knew that Bell's maintained the Sky Ride but I was not aware that they actually owned it. I thought that the city owned it and hired Bell's staff to maintain it. As for the fate of my beloved Zingo...well do we know yet? The bumper car building collapsed in an ice storm a couple months ago, and has since been removed form the property. That is really all I know that has occured there lately.

^Ah what, Really? I didn't hear that about the bumper cars... sad.

Yeah, I didn't know they owned this until they sold it either, but it's good that they got the extra $600,000 dollars out of it to aid the move, maybe they could use some of it to move Zingo? Meh, it's probably toast, oh well, as long as they build a new woodie at the new park I'll be OK.

They had better save the Zingo! I figured if they couldn't move it, it would remain at the fairgrounds. It would suck to only have it operate a couple weeks per year, but at least it would still be there. Other fairgrounds have owned and maintained woodies on there property before. They could even open the ride up for company picnics and stuff. It's a pretty simple one. I don't think it costs much to run at all. The most expensive ride to operate there are the water slides. They take five people to run them, and the cost of the pumps constantly running adds up quick. I think I was told it costs like $200 an hour to run the Chili Pepper.

No park would keep an attraction that costs they 1-2 thousand a day to keep up.

as for the deal good move. That kind of money is a good start for what they need to move the park. I'm sure the city that gets the park would help. They need to move the coaster. for starters it's a classic and more of a draw for me then any coaster they get in 3-5 years from now.
