As a firm Six-Flags "hateboy," I am no longer a Nintendo fan.

This is dumb to me. Why the heck would go to an amusement park, and play Nintendo? That is what you can do the other 364 days of the year. I just don't get it. What ever.

I've always despised Nintendo. They should've gotten a Sony alliance if anything. But really, why pay $50-60 to go to an amusement park just to play a game console.... that doesn't really make any sense...

Zingoman and cplover34 --- Think of it this way...future Wii games will have the Six Flags logo present during interactive gameplay (in-game advertising). Hence, marketing alliance. Six Flags showcases Nintendo's new system hardware to millions of visitors, while Nintendo will do the same by broadcasting Six Flags' brand to millions of Wii game fans.
That's not all either. Think of all the cross-marketing advantages --- such as promotional discounts. Like buy two Wii games and get a free ticket to Six Flags. Or Six Flags will probably hold in-park contests to give away free Wii games. That kind of thing.

Exactly. and when you're walking throughout the park, and a kid who's been wanting the wii comes across it and plays it, he'll bug his parents to buy it for him, or they may potentially see that technology or whatever. It just advertisement. It's their choice...it may or may not be smart, but hey its six flags, this isn't this first dumb choice.

Actually when you think about it, it makes perfect since, not just from the advertising aspect. There is some people out there that would pay admission, then see the Wii and end up playing that for a few hours. That means that is one less person waisting electricity on the rides meaning that Six Flags could pay less for electricity.

Nobody is going to spend hours playing a Wii demo at a Six Flags. That's also assuming there's no line to play the games. I'm sure the booing and yelling from behind would scoot Billy Bob or John Smith out of the way after a 5 minute demo.

I would have thought maybe Microsoft would have been the obvious choice since Bill Gates is a major stock holder in the SFI company, but what ever. I'm not a fan of Nintendo or the Wii system, but it's still a neat partnership to have in the parks to have more entertainment for the youngsters.

LaRonde has the Nintendo Megadome in their park and it always has a line.
It's always a nice break to take 15minutes to sit an air conditioned bulding and play some video games.

Its as simple as cross-promotion and product visibility. Play Wii see Six Flags, go to Six Flags. Or, walk by Wii demo at Six Flags and on the way home buy a Wii. WDW Epcot and Sega did the same thing for years. Nobody is going to go to Six Flags for Wii.

"This agreement with Nintendo enables us to partner with a company, and a product, that has major relevance in the lives of today's families. When this audience is not in our parks, more often than not they are at home playing video games -- and now they can do both in one place as we continue to build Six Flags into a supermarket of entertainment," said Mark Shapiro, Six Flags President and CEO.
OK. I dont' get it. Shapiro says the focus of the parks is moving to FAMILIES not TEENS. Yet he is marketing something that normally appeals only to teens.

It's more of getting the word out. It's just a benefit and I don't really think people are going to go just to play the Wii. That's not the point. It's just another option at a six flags park, for example when the smaller kids are waiting with mum while dad and big bro ride Chang, instead of sitting around they can go play some Rayman. It's not like you're suppose to be playing for hours, just for a quick break. Also this will appeal to those thrill sissies that just aren't into coasters.

Wes, all Nintendo has been trying to do with the Wii and DS is the appeal to the untouched non-gamer market, where better to market your systems to non-gamers than a place thats trying to attract families. Once Mom plays the Wii at SFGAm and has fun, theres a much better chance for her to be buying one for her kids at Christmas time. This is a perfect way to get the system into people's hands.

I wonder what Bill gates feels about this. He's a major stockholder in the company and that's a competing game system for him. I personally wouldn't be too happy.

This is the stupidest thing ever. SO STUPID!!!!
The parents pay a good sum of money, including admission, food, and redemption games all so that their kids can have a day of fun outside in the sunlight with fresh air. Arcade games are a place to cool off, and had limits as they aren't free. But now free unlimited play on a high end gaming console? Man Shapiro and Snyder are stupid. You don't win kids over with familiar material items, you win them over with divine qualities of fun and good feeling, which is what Disney has. At least it'll keep the geeks and snot noses out of the lines.

Do me a favor, Jerry. Take over a 30-park company that is crumbling in an attempt to bring it back up to speed and we'll see how well you do. If you succeed, then you may talk bad about Shapiro and Snyder all you want, but until then, I suggest you keep your mouth closed before people start thinking about you the way you think about Six Flag's coprorate management.
