Posted at 12:43 AM EST (0543 GMT) Feb. 5th, 2007 -- Via Press Release – Kings Island celebrates its 35th anniversary in 2007 by soaring to new heights with its 14th roller coaster, Firehawk. Debuting Memorial Day Weekend, this innovative flying coaster propels willing test pilots 115 feet in the air and through five inversions at speeds of more than 50 mph – all while facing the ground, experiencing the inconceivable feeling of human flight. The best of the best begin their mission just behind Flight of Fear roller coaster in Coney Mall. After boarding their four-across yellow and red pilot seats, guests are lowered backward and begin their ascent up the 115-foot-tall red and steel gray lift hill, only to be flipped over and jetted at top speeds through ˝ mile of steel track over the course of 2 minutes and 30 seconds!
“The addition of Firehawk reflects our commitment to combining one-of-a-kind thrills with fantastic family entertainment,” said Greg Scheid, Kings Island’s vice president and general manager. “We’re looking for some real thrill seekers who are ready and willing to fly. What a way to celebrate our 35th anniversary!” Firehawk joins a portfolio of 13 award-winning, industry-leading roller coasters including The Beast (the world’s longest wooden coaster), Son of Beast (the world’s tallest and fastest wooden coaster), Flight of Fear (the world’s first coaster with LIM launch technology), Vortex (the country’s first six-inversion coaster) and Rugrat’s Runaway Reptar (the world’s first inverted coaster for children). Kings Island opens for weekend operation Saturday, April 21. Gates open at 10 a.m. Daily operation begins Wednesday, May 23. Boomerang Bay™ opens Saturday, May 26. Visit the official Kings Island site for the original article.

Why do parks have a love to relocate Flyers and Re-Theme them to make them sound way better then they were before?

OK is it just me, or does the logo somehow look like the stole an owl and put Robot Chickens logo on it or something?
It should be called Robot Owl.

The ride description makes it seem like it's themed to a new aircraft, not a bird.
A new Top Gun name would have been better.

They are talking this thing up so incorrectly. It's not a family ride, It's not new or innovative, not to mention it's a been there done that coaster for OH. What a waist.
I do like the name though.

What a pathetic name and logo. I literally burst into laughter when I saw this on the front page. It looks like some crappy logo a kid would make in MS Paint to advertise his new RCT creation.

Well, I enjoyed this ride at GL, and I'll still enjoy it at KI. I do think it's a tad lame how they are marketing a used coaster from up the road, but it doesn't mean the coaster is any less worthy of riding. It will be a good coaster to add variety to KI.

I actually think its a good name, and I think the logo is rather cool looking, so therefore I cant complain. Being a business management major in college, I know exactly why they would advertise it in such a manor. Its a marketing strategy that draws peoples attention(those being the GP) and their interests, so they make the trip out to Kings Island to ride it. Thier will be many visitors to Kings Island who think this is a one of a kind kinda ride, that it is totally brand new, but unfortunately its not. From what I understand, X-Flight is not a horrible coaster, its not bad, and its not going to be a big mistake made by the Cedar Fair company. It may not be the best coaster in the world, but its a good addition that will help the park, rather than hurt it. I find it rediculous that some people call themselves coaster enthusiasts, and then have the nerve to criticize a coaster that really isnt as bad as they claim it is. Is it appropriate to call a logo crappy, when it is better than the previous logo, and name, and when it has a more attractive logo than many other coasters? Again, I think this is a good move, and a good fit for the park, it is something the park has needed for quite some time.

Yeah, and many people who aren't "enthusiasts" like ourselves won't know the difference. You'd be surprised what a name change, color change, and location change can do. Perhaps they'll make good use of the land and add scenery?

If they make the ride look as awesome as BORG Assimilator down in Carowinds then I can't complain. That ride has awesome scenery.
Anyways, I feel sorry for GL, having two of their major coasters removed this season, that stinks.

I was sort of hoping for another BORG Assimilator, if for no other reason than some cool thematic elements to fly around. Oh well.

Ok, the scenery, logo, and colors and stuff dont matter, like at all. I mean, dont get me wrong, they can be cool, but everyone seems to be overlooking the fact that theres an awesome roller coaster being moved to kings island and I AM TOTALLY PSYCED!!!! This is gonna be sweet! All the people who are insluting this ride are just salty about the fact that its being moved here, and away from them. Look, if it was really bad, why complain that its gone? This is gonna be great! The actual ride is the thing that matters, not the hawk thing on the logo.
