News: New shows and a roller coaster coming to Six Flags St. Louis

Posted at 3:46 AM EST (0846 GMT)

Feb. 12th, 2007 -- Family oriented shows and attractions are the focus of all Six Flags parks this year, and Six Flags St. Louis in Eureka, MO showcases this effort with the introduction of new shows and a new family roller coaster for the 2007 season.

At a mere 51-feet high and mild speeds of 31 mph, the new Tony Hawk's Big Spin roller coaster is approximately half the speed of Six Flags St. Louis' premier roller coaster The Boss.  The coaster's individual vehicles spin in 360-degree rotations like a top as it moves up and down and along the track.

"Bigger, faster roller coasters have been the fad, but we are refocusing on the family," said Six Flags St. Louis spokeswoman Elizabeth Gotway.

Other new family attractions include 'tween concerts on Thursdays, fireworks on Saturdays and new Looney Tunes shows. The park also will host Tony Hawk's Boom Boom HuckJam Tour, featuring top skateboarders and BMX bike riders on June 2 and 3.

Tony Hawk's Big Spin will debut on opening day, April 21. Children 42 inches tall can ride with an adult; children 47 inches or taller can ride by themselves.

From the renderings of the coaster it looks like they are going el-cheapo on this one.

They could have done a lot better on the "ramps" and such, but oh well. It's a coaster and that's always good.

Like Raven Simon, Hannah Montanh or things like High School Musical. Of course they can't use them because they are Disney Brands but that was just an idea of the Tween scene.

^Actually they could but it would take a lot of money to get them there because Disney would charge a big fee.

It sounds like great additions, I know I will definitely be riding if I get to go there this year. Does anyone now if this will be in a completely new area or is some other ride being taken out to accommodate the coaster?

I do not think another ride is being removed for this new coaster. I think they removed an amphitheatre of some kind in order to build this new ride by their new kids area Bugs Bunny National Forest.

...Been a fad..." Like that wasn't prescripted. The show Selection sound bland and the coaster should be good but It may not have the impact they think it will have.
