Yesss. So Psyclone is gone, Flashback has yet to go down, coasters are getting repainted, Parking lot resurfaced, and a whole bunch of other improvements. I wonder what they are going to bring in next year. This is definetly a good step to making Magic Mountain better.

I agree, but it doesn't say anything about the SBNO rides at the Mountain. What about Bayern Curve or Rotor or monorail? It is good that they finally got X up and running.

^ The only ride not operating right now is the Metro. Sierra Twist and Spin Out are operating.

Yeah spinout reopened after some downt ime, and I don't recall Sierra Twist being closed at all...I know Circus Wheel was down for most of last year, but came back up late October, early November.

I love how the trend now is to remove rides, announce that you're doing maintanence that needs to be done anyway, add new things to sell that you hope will make people part with more money, then send out a press release about how much trouble you're going through to "improve" the park. When I go to the park with my family and spend over 100 dollars just to get in my top priority is definately products and services I'm familiar with. Who cares about what rides and attractions you're getting for the small fortune you spend to get in.

Ok, some please explain to me why Cedar Fair and Geauga Lake get absolutly blasted by their plans to tear down 2 coasters, make general park improvements, and "vow" to look into future attractions, while Six Flags is doing the exact same thing and is getting praised for it? People complain about how CF takes out 2 coasters and is not replace them with anything. They say that CF is just killing the park so they can just sell it. Yet when Magic Mountain does the exact same thing, people praise Six Flags for making so many improvements, and talk of how this is the first step for SFMM returning to its former greatness. I don't understand the double standard. I completely agree with both company's decisions. I think that removing these coasters and adding general improvements will make both parks better. But I can't understand why one company is praised for what they are doing, yet one is villified.

Magic Mountain, or SFI, was pushing the park in the wrong direction. Removing two coasters was for the better, since they held the record for coasters for a good while, but then they finally realized quality is better than quanity.
I don't know much about Geauga Lake's reputation but it was never as successful as SFMM and removing two coasters would mean less coasters, obviously, but SFMM had 17 coasters (19 if you count superman and colossus as 2) and the removal of two of them was for the better. The descision to remove X-Flight and Steel Venom may have been both a good and a bad choice. In a new location, it may get more riders and deserve the ride amount it needs. The bad part is that Geauga Lake is carefully pushing people away from it. But hey, they shouldn't complain, Cedar Point and Kings Island aren't too far away.

I agree - I have said in the past that Flashback was just a lousy ride - a decent idea, I suppose, but the execution was horrible. I thought Psyclone was just mediocre. So I would give SFMM a combo of good and business decisions rather than good and bad. Psyclone was put where it was because that area will not take a heavy-footprint ride. The bobsled ride (called Sarajevo - which would have either been ironic or embarrassing during the Bosnian war) was replaced by a stand-up coaster that just refused to settle in properly. Putting a kiddie land (with light footprint rides) in that area would not a bad idea at all. Although I still say the Wiggles are the crew of the USS Enterprise gone horribly wrong. Thomas: you and your friends have a home waiting. That would be my choice, anyway.

Yeah, it was previously housed by:
1. Nothing
2. Sarajevo Bobsleds (I was born in Bosnia btw. lol)
3. Shockwave (supposed mechanical nightmare)
3. Psyclone (Very rough, after Northridge Earthquake
4. Future Thomas & Friends/Wiggles world area.

How can any of you compare Geauga Lake removing two coasters to Magic Mountain removing two coasters? One had 10 and the other had 17 before the removals. Both removals for both parks to which I find a smart move.

I think SFMM is making some great moves. The look of the park has been a complaint for some time now. so all the paint is a welcomed addition. the coasters that were removed weren't that good from what I heard. and since new information has come out on GL's coasters i can understand why those were removed.

My comment is to nayaugpark52 statement.
This is good news to any visitor who has been been to Magic Mountain and had less than a stellar time. Several People have been treated to rough, un-maintenanced rides, coasters that aren't operating due to low ridership, mechanical issues, and all sorts of negative situations. It's great to hear that Managment is revamping it's ill managed Coaster entinsive park image and going more quality bound with things we can all enjoy.
Better food, snacks, and more asthetic scenary are always a plus and I for one am totally satisfied with what they are doing right now.

Chris L- The number of coasters in each park has nothing to do with what I'm saying. I agree that removing these coasters will be the best move for both parks. My problem is that I see a double standard in many enthusiast's thoughts on these removals. They praise SFMM, saying it is a great move to remove these coasters and focus on the general upkeep of the park. However when Geauga Lake does the exact same thing, Cedar Fair is painted as killing the park, and not letting the park have any good rides, because the only good rides go to Cedar Point. I think all of that is ridiculous, both parks are making good business decisions.

Great. More little kids running around. Go to disneyland. gah.
In a way I understand though... When I'm older and have kids I'll want to to a place with tight coasters, but also something for the kids to do.
Still....

Mikey, I'm not saying that finally maintaining the park is a bad thing. No one knows better than me how bad Six Flags does things. Just look at how poorly managed Six Flags New England became when they took over. I'm saying that doing normal maintenance that you should have been doing all along isn't cause for a big PR statement that you're doing something special for your patrons. Resurfacing the parking lot? That's news? What's next? An announcement that they're improving their accounting system? Adding a vending machine to the employee's lounge? Putting a drop ceiling in the customer service building? Adding automatic flush to the urinals? Picking up the leaves that have been lying around since last fall?

I'm glad to see the park moving in the right direction. Maybe in the near future we can stop calling it Maintenance Mountain.
I know the Wiggles will probably move in next year, but that gives something for the rugrats to do, so there's less of them in line for the coasters. lol

Nayaugpark52:
I truly get what you are saying, but ultimately this just shows the local community that they are turning over a new leaf and not just throwing up another Roller Coaster to fall victim to bad management. A lot of the announcements for Improvements were believe it or not based off of the many complaints recieved during several years of progressively bad operation and that is news. When you voice your opinion or provide any sort of complaint, typically you want to hear some feedback as to whats being done about it. So Six Flags is just being Deligent and Curtious at providing that feedback that we all want to hear, well most of us anyway!

When you look at it, a lot of little kids also like coasters...i know thats no excuse though not to have a kiddie land. but yes, i agre with wes it will take the loser kids away from the coasters...at least those that are eligible to ride. ha.
