News: Six Flags and Sara Lee Corporation enter marketing alliance

Posted at 3:33 PM EST (2033 GMT)

Mar. 6th, 2007 -- Press release via PRNewswire --

Six Flags, Inc. announced today a multi-year sponsorship and marketing alliance with Sara Lee Food & Beverage and Sara Lee Foodservice, divisions of Sara Lee Corporation under which the two divisions will become a Six Flags Corporate Alliance Partner and Sara Lee's Ball Park brand will become the Official Hot Dog of Six Flags. In addition, Sara Lee Food & Beverage and Six Flags will collaborate on co-branded marketing initiatives both in-park and on grocers' shelves.

The agreement makes Ball Park hot dogs available in all US Six Flags
parks for the first time. It also enables a number of other joint
promotional initiatives, which include sponsorship of Six Flags Spring
Break Events in nine parks, Six Flags offers and sweepstakes promotions featured on-pack on Sara Lee retail products, and online advertising through SixFlags.com and Ballpark.com.

"Our agreement with Sara Lee ushers another well known consumer brand into Six Flags parks and strengthens our attendance prospects given Sara Lee's marketing reach," said Mark Shapiro. "Ball Park offers more than simply a great product - it's a popular brand name that resonates with our guests and will drive high margin hot dog sales."

"At Sara Lee, we want to be where our consumers are. With its millions
of visitors every year, Six Flags provides us with a great opportunity to
make our products even more readily available to consumers across the
country," said Steve Clapp, vice president, Ball Park brand. "Beginning
this spring, more people than ever can enjoy Ball Park while they're
enjoying themselves at a Six Flags park."

The Ball Park brand was launched in 1957 in response to a request from
the owner of the Detroit Tigers baseball team. The Ball Park frank was such a success, it was expanded nationally. Today, Ball Park products can be found in supermarkets, convenience stores and a variety of baseball parks - including Detroit's Comerica Park.

Six Flags, taking joint-marketing ventures to a whole new level. Wow:

1) Home Depot
2) A&E
3) Chase Card Services
4) Nintendo
5) Papa John's
6) Coldstone Creamery
7) Kodak
8) Heintz
9) Sara Lee

And those are all within the last year. Am I missing any?

Maybe Six Flags is looking for a new type of world record instead of ride based records... the most "marketing alliances". jk.

Its not a bad idea in my opinion, the only bad one is Nintendo... that just doesn't make sense, but all the food "alliances" are great ideas for both Six Flags and the food manufacturer. Better food for the park, and more advertising on a large scale for the food manufacturer.

I wonder who is next to join the Six Flags Alliance?

And six flag's old hot dogs sucked. But they'll probably over price these hot dogs too.

I think they are all great as well, even the Nintendo one. Nintendo is currently marketed for families and it just so happens to be what Six Flags is after, so naturally it only makes sense. Better Food is one of the major things Six Flags needs. I just wish there was more of a variety of the food offering between the normal Pizza, Hamburger, and gross Hot dogs. A few really nice sit in Resturaunts would be great at some of the really big Parks of the chain. But these alliances seemed to be kicking into high gear at the moment.

^I agree about the sit-down restaurants, it would be nice to see a few of those at some of the SF parks. What would be nicer is the for the bigger parks to have their own hotels like some of the Cedar Fair parks do.

Hey Six Flags! I'll sell you the naming rights to me if you pay me a $1,000,000! Heck, you can even advertise for free on my car!

They have to do something to generate some cash. But this practice insn't really uncommon, many different amusement companies have many sponserships with like Six Flags Inc. is doing.
