News: Mt. Olympus acquires properties, expands park

Posted at 1:39 PM EDT (1739 GMT)

Mar. 28th, 2007 -- Via Press Relase: Upgrades have already started for five newly acquired properties to be renamed and incorporated into Mt. Olympus. On March 15, Nick and Eva Laskaris, now the sole proprietors of Mt. Olympus, purchased three adjacent lodging properties and two major attractions to create the largest entertainment resort complex in the Wisconsin Dells. The purchase included Treasure Island, the Captain's Quarters, Pleasant View Motel, The Bay of Dreams Indoor Waterpark and the former Family Land Outdoor Waterpark properties. With the acquisition from the Mattei family, Mt. Olympus adds over 356 guest rooms, 30 vacation units and an additional 60 acres of real estate to Mt. Olympus, bringing the total acreage to over 156 acres. This includes over 1 1/2 miles of frontage on the famous Wisconsin Dells Parkway (Hwy 12).

The Laskaris' plans for the property include a Greco-Roman motif to be featured in the following enhancements already in development:

  • Complete upgrades to the existing lobby of the former Treasure Island.
  • Upgrading the guest rooms and budget accommodations.
  • The addition of OPA! Kaffe, proudly brewing Starbucks Coffee, to the lobby, opening spring of 2007.
  • Waterparks themed to match the Greco-Roman architecture of Mt. Olympus.
  • The addition of a new family video arcade redemption center.
  • The addition of a new on-site retail store.
  • Vacation Ownership.

Future upgrade plans include a new grand lobby, luxury suites, and an on-site restaurant. "This addition to the Mt. Olympus realm means resort guests can now awaken to a mythological kingdom at their very feet, with all four of the Mt. Olympus parks and all the other amenities included FREE with their stay. We have big plans to make the rooms reflect the Greco-Roman theme and give visitors the high quality experience they expect and deserve," says Nick Laskaris.

"Some of my life's fondest memories come from working side-by-side with my family to build this business. Together with my family, I started at the ripe old age of 8 to create a place everyone could visit and enjoy. It is because of my father and mother's hard work that we have a park. Mt. Olympus has become the American Dream. We started with one humble little go-kart track and went from there, with hard work, a vision and most of all, family.

"My father had a vision for what the park should be, which I have taken and added my own ideas to, creating a Dells experience like no other. The work ethic and perseverance my father instilled in me have made Mt. Olympus what it is today," Mr. Laskaris adds.

The dreams continue to grow this season with the addition of the five new Mt. Olympus properties. In addition to the four parks (Zeus' Outdoor Theme Park, The Parthenon Indoor Theme Park, Neptune's Outdoor Waterpark and The Bay Indoor Waterpark) guests of the new Mt. Olympus Resort and Hotels will enjoy exclusive private pools, whirlpools, fitness center, pottery shop, video arcade centers and dining areas.

Mt. Olympus' 2007 season additions also include Poseidon's Rage and
Apollo's Swing. Part of Neptune's Outdoor Waterpark, Poseidon's Rage will be one of America's largest surf pools -- able to bellow out huge waves up to 9 feet tall every 90 seconds -- and will feature a "private" island available for rental by guests of Mt. Olympus. Able to reach 4G's and speeds up to 75 mph and heights over 130 feet, Apollo's Swing will open this spring in Zeus' Outdoor Theme Park. These two new attractions, along with Mt. Olympus' shopping, dining, sports bar, adventure golf, batting cages and video redemption arcades will form a complete entertainment experience that will be a huge draw to the Wisconsin Dells area.

This is no big deal. Mt. Olympus included all of this land before, it's just now the owners of the old Big Chief actually own all the property, instead of many different owners.

I Would also guess that the Apollo's Swing is a S&S swing ride. The web site has no mention of it which is a bit surprising.

I have to agree though this is a bit off. I have heard many reports that the par is not kept up the way it should be. I can see the Hotels but I pray they can, depending on were it's located, convert the closed water park into park space. Right now outside of there coasters there is nothing that would dray be to the park.

Until they staff the parks with employees that speak english and actually consider the safety of the guests, they won't be real player in the industry.

Disney Style Property?
Ah. . . no.

They're doing well with theming, good rides and all, but along the lines of Disney, definitely not.
