News: Tweetsie Railroad adds four new rides, renews lease

Posted at 7:50 AM EDT (1150 GMT)

Apr. 6th, 2007 -- Tweetsie Railroad is staying put, at least for now.

Their lease was set to expire after this season on 142 acres occupied by the park.

The park has a new 4-year lease agreement but is still looking at backup plans in case they are unable to renew the lease after 4 years.   The park has stated that if they would have to move, they would find a new site in the North Carolina mountains.

Officials are also saying they are adding four new rides to the park for its 50th anniversary season. The new rides are a Tornado, a free-fall ride, a Round Up spin ride and a pirate-themed dark ride. The new rides are designed to appeal to children aged 8 and up.

Great to hear there Lease was expired. I'm surprised though that with only 4 years on the lease they opted to get 4 rides. The dark ride which I would assume requires a building makes the least sense.

I suspect the "drop tower" is probably either a shooting star or frog hopper since its supposed to appeal to 8 year olds.

I'm thinking the Tornado is one of these: http://www.flatrides.com/Ride%20Inde...es/tornado.html

Only a 4 year lease? Wow, thought it would've been longer than that. Tweetsie needed some new rides, I'm glad they are getting some, even if it is just kiddie rides.

I thought it said that the rides were to appeal to children 8 and up. I wouldn't rule out a larger rop tower than a frog hopper.
