Apr. 17th, 2007 -- Via Press Release:
Maggie Valley, NC – Ghost Town in the Sky, Western North Carolina’s mountain-top theme park has completed renovation on one of the most unique roller coasters in the United States. Now known as “Cliff Hanger” (formerly Red Devil) the 56mph, O.D. Hopkins Associates, Inc.- built coaster has been completely sand blasted and has had each of its joints thoroughly tested and inspected. The Cliff Hanger will boast a new corn husk yellow track, chili red trains and a navy blue station. These colors will also be used throughout the park and mirror the park’s logo. The park picked the new name from over 250 submissions in a contest on their website. Each of the seven winners will each receive two season passes. The park may also use some of the other entries not used to name future attractions at the park. Winners were from Tennessee, Georgia, and North and South Carolina. Cliff Hanger is a one-of-a-kind coaster, built on the side of Buck Mountain. After leaving the station, the track takes a sharp drop, building up speed and then immediately leads into a huge vertical loop. In addition to the fact that there are few mountain-top coasters besides Cliff Hanger, it also remains one of the few O.D. Hopkins coasters ever built. Along with the newly refurbished coaster, the park will be adding a drop tower ride, a new museum, new entertainment and all new live shows. Individual tickets and season passes are now available online or at the Ghost Town Welcome Center in Maggie Valley. For more information visit Ghost Town in the Sky.
