News: RipQurl Washes Ashore at Island Kingdom Water Park

Posted at 2:52 PM EDT (1852 GMT)

Jun. 10th, 2007 -- Denver, CO --  Get ready for a wet-and-wild ride with the new extreme tube slide, RipQurl, opening June 16 at Elitch Gardens in Island Kingdom Water Park. The swirling high-energy, ride experience sends two riders on a double tube down a steep slide into a bowl where they spin around before dropping through a chute to the landing pool.

The RipQurl is designed by ProSlide, a world leader in design and development of water rides for Water parks, theme parks and resorts. Standing at 60 feet tall, RipQurl pumps 4,500 gallons of water per minute .  RipQurl is the newest addition to Island Kingdom Water Park since The Edge was added in 2005.

Island Kingdom Water Park is full of wet-and-wild rides, slides and attractions for those of any age to explore and enjoy.  Brave adventurers can zoom down the speed slides or surf the waves in Commotion Ocean.  Kids are free to discover interactive features of Hook’s Lagoon, a five-story “tree house” with more than 150 water gadgets, sprinklers, sprays and a giant barrel overhead that drenches everyone below.

Elitch Gardens is a 117-year-old tradition of family fun and entertainment with thrilling coasters, family rides and Island Kingdom Water Park featuring a new extreme tube ride, the RipQurl. New for 2007…the dramatic cirque-style performance, Bailamos…XCITY!, a spectacular urban acrobatic production… and the spellbinding evening show, Carnaval de Fuego. Elitch Gardens is located in downtown Denver. Go to elitchgardens.com for more information.

I don't see why every park makes a big deal out of this every time they get one of these. They're fun going down the drop, and into the bowl, but then it's just swirl swirl swirl. Oh yeah, and drop out into splash pool. What's the big deal with these?!?

^Even though I've only been on 2, I think they are fun! depending on how they are set up, they can send you around at a decent speed, and some have special effects like extra sprayers and cool lights. The drop out itself can be exciting, especially if taken backwards.

I haven't done the body slide version yet, and I'm really looking forward to it this summer.

This announcements main purpose is to get the gp excited about the new addition. As an enthusasist, we are more likely to say been there, done that.

Ya but If I live in Denver and I want to go to a water park EG is not going to be my choice. I'll go to the much larger Water world. Good to see them get something at least. but I think Derian lake could have used it more.
