News: Steel Venom looks to slither into Dorney Park

Posted at 8:31 AM EDT (1231 GMT)

Jun. 26th, 2007 -- When Cedar Fair Entertainment Co. announced that they would be removing not one, but two roller coasters from Geauga Lake park, near Cleveland, Ohio, speculation began as to where the company would relocate the coasters.

X-Flight was relocated to Kings Island and debuted this year as Firehawk, but no official word ever came on where the Intamin-built Steel Venom would be relocated.

While Cedar Fair still has not released plans for the coaster, mcall.com is reporting that the coaster will be relocated and installed at Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom, located in Allentown, Penn.

Plans have been approved by the South Whitehall Planning Commission to build a coaster, fitting the same specifications of Steel Venom on the Dorney Park property.

I heard about this on themeparkreview about three months ago, and I am still quite happy that Dorney is getting Steel Venom. It should fit their atmosphere very well.

However, it will save Geauga Lake a lot of attendance as well. This is pretty much the equivalent of (Darien Lake) Mind Eraser moving to Frontier City, and Viper being moved to Elitch Gardens. The general public is most likely not that happy about those rides leaving, when nothing is replacing them, as far as we know.
