News: Wildcatter goes out with a bang

Posted at 4:09 PM EDT (2009 GMT)

Oct. 2nd, 2007 -- Today the 128-foot-tall “Wildcatter”, an Intamin 1st Generation Freefall, came tumbling down to make way for the new Tony Hawk’s Big Spin coaster.

Wildcatter, which has thrilled more than 17 million people since 1982 was imploded at 2 p.m. local time.  The ride debuted under the name Texas Cliffhanger, then was changed to G-Force in 1995, then made it’s final name change in 1999.

This is probably one of the last ones left at any Six Flags, correct?

SFOG, SFGadv and one other pulled theirs out last year I think???

This is one of my theme park regrets. I should have realized how rare they were going to become and ride my first outside of SFGADV. I lost mine at the end of the season @ SFGADV.

Yet another thrill ride coming down for mediocre, cloned family rides. :(

I haven't posted on any news stories recently, but this one deeply saddens me. I had some great drops at SFOT on Wildcatter, especially with its weird, small entrance attracting short lines. That photo of demolition really hurt to see, knowing that it wasn't going to be relocated to another park. Please CP, if for some reason you have to remove DD (which is for sale on an amusement park ride website), don't destroy it!

Interesting that they imploded it. You would think it would be easilly dismanteled.
