News: Lightwater Valley gets public support for expansion

Posted at 9:40 AM EDT (1340 GMT)

Oct. 29th, 2007 -- Lightwater Valley has gathered the required 10,000 signatures it needed from locals to expand their theme park into a resort destination.

Officials have planned to add 340 chalets and lodges over the next few years. Many neighbors opposed the idea because it was too large of a development. The local planning council had rejected the theme park's plan in July.

The park began a public campaign in September to dispel rumors and myths about their project. The work paid off for the park, which now has a public backing.

It is a sad fact that many theme parks in the UK cannot afford new rides, no new rides means no new visitors and the circle of decline starts.

Flamingo Land have shown that this idea works, and works very well, they are dragging themselves right up to becoming a great park. I only hope that Lightwater will follow suit. It is a sad little park at the moment and a bit of a waste of time, but I wouldn't like to see the Ultimate go. We signed this petition and I only hope that the council sees sense, unlike so many other councils in this declining country.

This park doesnt look like it would be grand enough to be titled, a resort.
