News: Voyage holds off El Toro to stay in top spot

Posted at 8:56 PM EST (0156 GMT)

Dec. 7th, 2007 -- Mitch Hawker has tallied the votes in his “Best Roller Coaster Poll” (the wooden coaster edition) and again Holiday World’s monstrous machine “The Voyage” has taken the top spot.

The poll is considered by many to be the most fair way of calculating votes for coasters around the world and has been a benchmark for many an internet coaster poll.  Voting is open to anyone, anywhere in the world unlike some polls that are restricted to only a certain group or organization.

The Voyage edged past El Toro which finished second and held off Dollywood’s Thunderhead which moved up the poll to third place from its seventh place finish last year.

Toverland’s creation “Troy” made a lot of fans in its first year, as it finished fourth.

Many old favorites still made the top ten like Balder and Boulder Dash.

Mitch will soon bring us the 2007 steel coaster poll.  Keep checking ThrillNetwork for the link when it becomes available.

Voyage is a great coaster. It is #1 in my coaster list although I have not ridden Voyage with trim added.

Of all the wooden coasters I rode this year, Renegade was the best. Shivering Timbers and Legend were very much of let down after riding Renegade.

I really need to make it out to Holiday World in 2008 to ride this coaster. Because El Toro is an awesome coaster and you have to be hard pressed to beat it. So I can't form an opinion of if Voyage deserves the #1 title, but it makes me want to ride this coaster even more to see just how great it is to beat the Bull.lol

It is the most fair by the way that the votes are calculated. It does not go just by what coasters got the number one votes. You can look at Mitch Hawker's website for a detailed description of how it works, and why it is the most fair poll out there as of now.

Having been on El Toro and Voyage I dont agree with the results, but thats only my opinion. I think El Toro is much better than Voyage, and dont really think Voyage is all that great. But I guess thats just me.

^^Most fair maybe available but like stated above people can just use different email addresses which can throw the poll off.

I need to get out to SF to ride El Toro and see if I agree.

I'll certainly say that Voyage is the best wooden coaster I've ever ridden, but I haven't ridden it since they put the trim on, so I may be disappointed with my next ride.

Aska??? How did a coaster that is listed as closed since 2006 make the 2007 polls? It is listed as #11. I am a bit baffled to say the least.

I may be wrong, (as I have been often) but I was under the impression that the trims aren't even used most of the time on Voyage. They are there for the rare occasion that for some reason it is going too fast...

I'm not sure when they put the trim on, but I rode the Voyage twice this July and I never felt a trim on it. By far the best wooden coaster I've ever been on.
