News: Top Gun and Borg get new names at Carowinds

Posted at 8:39 AM EST (1339 GMT)

Jan. 3rd, 2008 -- With the purchase of the former Paramount Parks by Cedar Fair, park patrons knew that some things would eventually get a makeover.

Carowinds website has now revealed the new names for two of the most popular coasters at Carowinds, located in Charlotte, NC.

Top Gun - The Jet Coaster will now be known as “Flight Deck” and Borg Assimilator will now be called “Nighthawk”.

The other coasters and rides at the park seem to be keeping their current names.

For more information visit Carowinds.

Nighthawk is ok, but Flight Deck? How lame.

How many more "...hawk" rides is Cedar Fair going to build? Skyhawk, Firehawk, Thunderhawk, and now Nighthawk?

And Flight Deck? Ridiculous. How about just The Jet Coaster?

Afterburner would have been a cool name as well.

It was the day I was fearing. I wish I was a marketing intern even to input on this. Flightdeck!?!?! How about just Jet coaster? If any coaster was really worthy of its name it would be Top Gun. There was a lot of swagger behind those coaster names because those rides brought it like this one, KI and CGA. That's really sad. I really wanted to get my first credit on Top Gun: The Jet Coaster. I wrestled that draft pick from Wes even. Yeah, Wes, we fought over Flightdeck for the Draft. It's just not as cool sounding. That's disappointing.

Afterburner would have been a way better name. How it is supposed to be on top coaster lists as Flightdeck? Someone please bring the mop for the deck. CF blipped on it.

Flight Deck? For 2008, that goes down as the second worst name ever for a roller coaster. SFFT still holds the title for their 105ft inverter, Goliath.lol

Flight Deck? Are they serious? The Jet Coaster would be way better than that and i am sure they could think of something better than that for the best roller coaster in the park...NightHawk isn't so bad, but Flight Deck? We need to get that changed.

Even if they swapped each others names it would be better. Nighthawk, an awesome inverted coaster, and flight deck, a flying coaster. But no. Some parks just don't know how to name rides. Others never seems to have the problem at all.

Cedar Fair must have some great minds working at Carowinds thinking up names.

Sad...very sad...they could have just names TG Tomcat, which is what the jet is called and Borg coulda been named Flight...all in keeping with CP simplistic naming scheme...One this is apparent, when CP bought GL from SF, they got a ride namer in the deal.

You guys should relax, Flight Deck, they could have painted it hot pink and called it little miss kittie. Flight Deck is better than alot of other names in the industry.

[hangs head in shame, massages sinuses in frustration, and sighs in exasperation] Good God, whoever approved those names for use should be fired... Cedar Fair should have kept at least one person on from Paramount in order to figure out the 'theming' concept for them...

How creative! Cedar Fair is so creative with names "Backlot Stunt Coaster, Flight Deck, DOMINATOR, Detonator, Thunderhawk" and many many more.

These names are Horrible. What's even worse is the names they have are so good and refreshingly unique.

Ha. Flight Deck. That one is great for a laugh. Funny how the name is nothing more than just a description of the leftover Top Gun theming.

Which surprises me considering they didn't rename BORG Assimilator to "Extra Terrestrial Lay-down Coaster: The Ride."

Yeah, Flight Deck would have been way better for Borg because it is a FLYING roller coaster.....Gosh is there some paper or something we can sign to get them to change it? Th

Last time I checked, the rides are the same...the name doesn't change anything.

Dose any one else feel that Flight Deck should be a flat ride not a coaster. True it won't change the coasters themselves. though Removing themeing around Borg might.
