Jan. 14th, 2008 -- After many months of speculation, an account of the accident on Superman Tower of Power at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom by one of the operators of the ride has surfaced and it is a sobering tale.
The 16-year-old’s account of the accident came in a deposition released as part of the lawsuit filed by Kaitlyn Lasitter’s family against the park. The teen, who had been working at the park for about three weeks, quickly moved to where she could see the other ride operator and screamed for her to stop the ride. “I was like, 'Press the stop button.”, the girl told Larry Franklin, an attorney for the Lasitters in her deposition. "Then by the time we did that, it was too late. It was already down." The operator said the ride was nearing its peak when she heard a noise, and she was a couple of feet away from her E-stop, so she yelled at the other ride operator -- who she said was closer to one -- to stop the ride. The 16-year-old ride operator said she was trained to use the E-stops, but had never done so. The deposition of the other ride operator has not yet been taken. Two other passengers on the ride, 13-year-old girls who were Kaitlyn's friends, also complained of injures from the broken cable, according to court documents.
