News: Kings Island joins the name game

Posted at 3:32 PM EST (2032 GMT)

Jan. 25th, 2008 -- Kings Island joins its sister parks also playing the name game, with some ride name changes of its own.

Like Carowinds and California’s Great America, Top Gun has been renamed “Flight Deck”, The Italian Job: Stunt Track has taken the name “Backlot Stunt Coaster” like its cousin at Kings Dominion.  Face/Off has taken the same name as its cousin in California, going by "Invertigo" now.

Tomb Raider: The Ride has also taken the name “The Crypt” like Kings Dominions version did earlier.

The only holdout of the former Paramount Parks to change ride names as part of the conversion over to Cedar Fair, is Canada’s Wonderland.  The Canadian park’s website still shows no changes.

Sorry for the delay, but the parks had their websites down most of the week.

I'm sure Cedar Fair will take care of Canada before the season starts or when the new sites come back online.

Brilliant names, they almost make me want to ride those coasters right now! (sarcasm)

Where do these places come up with the names? I like "The Crypt" I could see that one, but "Backlot Stunt Coaster" and "Flight Deck" don't sound all that appealing... (Not saying I'm not going to ride them, just saying that with those names, who are they really placing the attention toward? What age group?)

The bigger question is: does the Flight Deck come first or the Flight of Fear. Do you need a flight deck, for a flight of fear???? There's a lot of flight's going on at KI now. lol

Huh.... LOL That was funny and i'm not even going to try and understand where these names come from.

Crypt is a very good name.

I don't like Backlot Stunt either because it's not Paramount Parks anymore. I thought they were trying to get away from the movie themes.

Why is everyone on a name game frenzy this year? It's like a virus. First Six Flags, then Cedar Fair. What next? Busch Gardens? Disney?

Same here. I loved the name Beastie.

I think Disney is the last company we have to worry about changing attractions names.

Would it have been a disservice to have used the Talon name on Top Gun or Thunderhawk? The Bat? Soaring Eagle? Something that swoops into a valley. Falcon? Even a billboard could still be kept but just given a new face of whatever mascot the ride would have.

I'm glad Face Off is now Invertigo. Could it become blue too?

Rush Hour Adventure for Italian Job?

I don't like when parks duplicate names, but I HATE when they duplicate bad names.

This was the perfect time for a retheme than to continue with the cancerous name that is Flight Deck.

I'm glad I visited the park in 2007.
