News: Carowinds finds a new home for Geauga Lake Yo Yo

Posted at 8:12 AM EST (1312 GMT)

Jan. 29th, 2008 -- When it was announced that Geauga Lake’s ride side was gone for good and that some of the flat rides and roller coasters would find new homes at other Cedar Fair properties, many enthusiasts started making their wish lists.

Dominator found a new home at Kings Dominion, Thunderhawk headed north, the park’s top spin found a new home out west among many ride moves and just this week Carowinds revealed that it has found a new home for the park’s Chance Yo Yo.

The ride originally debuted at Geauga Lake in 1978 and thrilled families for years.

Carowinds will run Yo Yo (they kept the same name) in the County Fair section of the park.  Rumors place it in the spot once home to the park’s first swing ride The Whirling Dervish (wave swinger).

Hopefully Yo Yo will be setup the same way as The Whirling Dervish, allowing riders to swing out over Flight Deck (formerly Top Gun – The Jet Coaster).

Carowinds plans to debut Yo Yo in March.

I would rather have the wave swinger but no big deal. Whatever fills in that hole between FX and TG is fine by me.

Racer, they did not replace a Wave Swinger with a Yo Yo. The Wave Swinger that Carowinds used to have was removed from the park around 1999. The Yo Yo will be the first swing ride to be placed in that park in 8-9 years.

We can only hope. I'll wait to see what it looks like in the area and see what they do with it to try and make it look good.

Hey, it's something i guess.

Better than looking at an empty space for years on end or a Haunt that they decide to leave up year round so it gets trashed and they have to spend more money fixing it.

I do wish they would change the name.

^^ They actually IMO did an amazing job with Frenzoid (southenr star) when they brought it back.

The thing looked better than it did before, even made a nice little beach themed queue for it. Nothing fancy, but I still think they did a nice job with it.

Hopefully they'll do the same.

Yo.

Frenzoid does look much better but it's just a new paint job. Something that Paramout never thought to do.

I don't like the fact that they gave it a beach theme since there is already a beach themed area at Carowinds. The beach theme does not fit Couty Fair but yes the ride looks very good jow.

Yay! I am excited and i like how its so close to Top Gun. I refuse to call it Flight Deck, I would call it another name though as long as it isn't as lame as flight deck. They could have called it Jet Fighter or something!
