News: After being 'decked' Top Gun feels the burn

Posted at 10:39 AM EST (1539 GMT)

Jan. 29th, 2008 -- This off season has been anything but boring this year, if you’re keeping track that is.  The former Paramount Parks have been changing names faster than Jason Bourne.

The latest episode involves a name change for the coaster formerly known as Top Gun at California’s Great America.

Earlier this month the coaster received its new name “Flight Deck”.  For whatever reason, and many could speculate that it might have had something to do with the huge backlash on the internet to the name, the park has now changed the coaster’s name to “Afterburn”.

Will the other parks follow?  We can only wait and see what will happen next in the name game.

For more information visit California’s Great America.

Yea!!! This is much better. Now watch after this they'll add a "-er" to the new sign they put up. LOL Flight Deck could still be the name of the ride exit bar deck.

The park clings to the invert as its top ride so it need ed a better name for the mediocre park it is.

It could've easily gotten a name such as Tomcat, and been just as cool.

I still like Maverick. I'd say change them all to Maverick and slap on a new coat of paint. Don't care if it's some or new colors.

Or leave the name and paint them anyway.

We can only hope that the other parks follow this example.

They should just go with "Top the Deck Jet Burn Coaster After Gun Flight".

I deffinitely like this alot more, and after they change it to AfterburnER, then they can end the name game.

I liked Flight Deck better. Crappy name for a crappy coaster.

We'll it looks like it's back to Flight Deck. I really wish CF would make up their minds.
