News: DreamWorks set to build first theme park

Posted at 9:29 AM EST (1429 GMT)

Feb. 4th, 2008 -- DreamWorks studio is planning to build its first theme park in the booming Persian Gulf state of Dubai.

The project will include themed restaurants, hotels, shops and rides incorporating characters from the studio’s animated feature films such as Shrek and the forthcoming Kung Fu Panda.

DreamWorks, headed by Jeffrey Katzenberg, has teamed up with state-owned property firm Tatweer for the project, which marks the latest in a series of deals between Hollywood production companies and United Arab Emirates developers.

'We are thrilled to bring the first DreamWorks Animation-dedicated theme park to Dubai," said Mr. Katzenberg.

The park will be built at Dubailand, an entertainment megaplex being constructed by Tatweer that is billed as the world's largest tourism, leisure and entertainment complex.

Mr. Katzenberg said the partnership would "create an exciting destination where families and tourists will enjoy the unique opportunity to interact with DreamWorks characters and brands".

I'm curious if this is just part of Nickelodeon's planned park in Dubai?

^^ Dubai has lots of money. They'd really be dumb not to try and cash in on it.

They are building the world's tallest skyscraper there as well.

Oil = Money

That's why I have to pay $3.00 a gallon!

Actually they run out of oil in 10-15 years and they know this. That's why they are building destinations, so that they don't become bankrupt when their fields run dry.

While I like The shreck series I could care less for most of the remaining Dreamworks animated movies. so personally I could care less about this. but It's basically about money. Free land and investment capital by the government. hard to turn down.

^^They will not run out of oil in 10-15 years. It is a common misconception that the panet will run dry in a decade or so, but in reality it will just get to the point where it becomes impractical to harvest.

Do people even know about dreamworks in that part of the world? I wasn't aware that any movies got over there.

I would assume they have heard of Dreamworks. Atleast if they have not heard of them i'm sure they have seen some of DW's movies.
