Mar. 2nd, 2008 -- (Hershey, PA) Each year Hersheypark hosts millions of visitors, many of whom take a moment to make a wish and drop a coin or two into one of the Park’s fountains or ponds.

At the end of 2007, all those were collected to make a total of $4,217.89. Hersheypark donated a check in that amount to Children’s Miracle Network at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in support of the hospital’s pediatric services.

Sounds like a great and easy way to make money for charities.

I always wondered what parks did with all the spare change. This is a great way for them to give back to the community.

At Cedar Point we collect all the change around the ride areas in a donation cup and when it gets full we take it to Park Operations and they send it to a charity but I'm not sure which one. I remember at Thunder Canyon we collected like $200 out of the little creek in the queue in 2005 one day when we cleaned it out. I think all the C.F. parks do this. Anyways, It's cool of Hershey but I thought it was pretty common for major parks to do that kind of thing.

Carowinds does the same thing. Thunder Road is the hot spot for some reason.
They find huge amounts of change under the ride every day and i do remeber someone saying that they donated all that change every year to the Childrens Miricale Network.

Thats why themeparks give those dollar coins back as change. So they can collect them back later after your lost them on a coaster.

I think that was a great thing to do. I was born 3 months premature and had very slim chances of living. My life was saved by the doctors at a CMN affiliated childrens hosptal
