News: Superman - Ride of Steel holds on to top spot

Posted at 1:08 PM EDT (1708 GMT)

Mar. 10th, 2008 -- The results are in and while the number one and two spots in Mitch Hawker’s poll aren’t quite a shock (Superman – Ride of Steel and Expedition GeForce respectively speaking) the third spot was taken by a relatively unknown South Korean coaster.

Eagle's Fortress (also known as Eagle Fortress), a fifteen-year-old Arrow suspended coaster at Everland park received what may be a (very) controversial third place finish.

The rest of the top ten pretty much stayed put, while maybe moving a notch or two up or down.

Cedar Point’s new creation, Maverick, placed tenth, Busch Gardens Europe’s Griffon placed thirteenth, while Dollywood’s new coaster Mystery Mine only came in 95th.

I'm glad SROS did better than GeForce.. I rode both last season (as well as SFA and SFDLs SROS.. and MF all in 07) and none can top SFNEs Superman.

X at MM finished really low. Perhaps it will jump once X2 opens.

I really don't have a problem with Eagle Fortress being #3. I was on the coaster in 2007. It's probably the best at using the topography it's on, a mountain. The long first drop after a turnaround helix off the lift does fall along side of the lift and then sweeps over the lift down by the station but the swings are quite wide and the ride really shines later in the layout where the helixes and turns brush along the mountain surface. I really wish I remember the latter part of the layout better but within a month later I was on Big Bad Wolf at Busch Gardens Europe. That ride is also awesome but Eagle Fortress gets the edge. I'm proud of Superman: Ride of Steel of SFNE being #1. It lives up to the billing. I'm just sad that because of a bad chain I missed a ride on it in 2007. So what if it has 2 across seating; the airtime is wild and I love the tunnels.
