News: Tweetsie Railroad fire destroys shops, museum

Posted at 12:14 PM EDT (1614 GMT)

Mar. 17th, 2008 -- The Depot building at Tweetsie Railroad caught fire early Sunday morning.  The fire, which was ruled accidental, might have been started by a lightning strike.

The Depot was destroyed along with a souvenir shop, a food stand and a first aid station.  Most importantly though, the museum was gutted and along with it so many pieces of history from the Blowing Rock, NC park that has entertained families for over 50 years.

That is really sad news. I was really hopeing to see all that old stuff when i visited the park and now it's gone forever.

I'm sure alot of stuff in the museum was pretty priceless.

I'm glad I visited a few years ago. The museum had a really cool custom model train in there that actually was a layout of the park.

I know they'll rebuild, but that's a lot of history. Gone. :(
