Posted at 10:28 AM EST (1528 GMT)

Mar. 25th, 2004 -- Singers, dancers, actors and an array of performers are invited to try out for The Great Escape’s signature shows on Saturday, March 27, as the park holds casting calls at the Bavarian Palace between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. The tryouts are a sure sign that opening day, Saturday, May 22, is not far off as The Great Escape readies to celebrate its 50th anniversary season!

Performers are needed for the following shows: The Wizard's Unwitting Apprentice, Freedom Sings, Flea T. Barnum’s Amazing Flea Circus, Sassy Sally, and The Rainmaker (see brief description of each show below).

Actors need to bring a 2-minute monologue. Singers will be called upon to perform a song and dance routine.

The Great Escape will mark its golden anniversary with months of celebrations beginning on Memorial Day weekend, May 29 – 31. The merriment will include special guest appearances, contests, and prize giveaways setting the standard for the celebrations to follow. Kimberly Locke, the third place contestant from last year’s American Idol, will appear at the park on Saturday, May 29 to host The Great Escape’s own spin-off, “Capital Region Idol.”

The official birthday bash will span the entire weekend of June 25 - 27, with Sunday, June 27 marking the actual day the park opened 50 years ago. The weekend will feature an 8-foot tall anniversary cake (which will be at the park all season long), and tons of fun truly making it a grand, golden celebration.

I love this family park. I've been going to this park at least once a year over the past 3 years (have friends in the area too). The shows I've seen have all been pretty good and worth viewing.
