News: 18 hurt when Yo-Yo collapses

May. 17th, 2008 -- A Yo-Yo collapsed Friday at the  Calaveras County, Calif., Fairgrounds, injuring 18 people.

The carnival portion of the fair was shut down Friday, but the rest of the grounds stayed open.

Three people were flown to the hospital with serious injuries, said the marketing director of the fairgrounds. Others injured were taken for treatment by ambulance or bus.

Hope everyone is ok. It's kinds weird it was that type of ride since Carowinds just got a used one. I hope they stay on top of it.

Does this ride differ from the Wave Swinger rides found at CP and KI?

Yo-Yo's are made by Chance, and Wave Swingers are made by Zierer. It's the same concept, but the rides are built very differently.

It is good to hear that there were only 3 serious injuries, because it could have been much worse. But even 3 is too many.
