News: Kings Island threatens withdrawal from Mason

Posted at 3:21 PM EDT (1921 GMT)

Jul. 3rd, 2008 -- Kings Island is threatening to “leave” the city of Mason, Ohio should the city impose a tax on tickets to the park.

General Manager Greg Scheid told the Middletown Journal that he sent Mason Mayor Tom Grossmann a letter several weeks ago pledging to "legally detach and go back to Deerfield Township," if the tax is imposed.

Mason's Finance Committee is considering between a 1 percent to 3 percent admissions tax on tourist attractions such as Kings Island and The Beach Waterpark.

Kings Island paid $130,232 in 2007 property taxes.

A de-annexing would not be easy, however. The city would have to approve any such move, according to Ohio law.

Great idea, but as I'm from Chicago, a 1 or 2 percent tax is nothing!! Good luck receding, you'll need it. I forsee the same types of problems as when Palantine wanted to recede from Cook County and join Mchenry county.

I really don't see it happening.

It would cost millions to tear down the park and rebuild it.

Does this mean they are changing the township boundaries, suceeding. or moving the park. Because I just don't see them moving the park.

Go KI! There's already enough taxes anyways.
