News: Kings Island's 2009 coaster will be B&M hyper

Posted at 9:31 PM EDT (0131 GMT)

Jul. 8th, 2008 -- Kings Island filed drawings with the city of Mason that describe a B&M hypercoaster.

The plans for 2009 show the coaster going from behind the Eiffel Tower, over Rivertown and into the woods. It may be 4,200 feet long.

The coaster will hold 32 people in eight cars, the plans show.

It will be a Bolliger & Mabillard coaster and is described as a hypercoaster. Detailed drawings were not submitted to the city, and state officials do not have any knowledge of the ride's design.

Rumors aside, I'm thinking it's going to be called Behemoth.

NOW I have a reason to visit Kings Island again. The article says a hypercoaster with 3 loops. That is unusual, wonder if the plans are interpreted wrong by the newspaper or will it be a hyper with loops? Shall soon see.

The loops are probably just helices or turns. The article says the drawings aren't too detailed, so it's probably just a simple layout.

I suspect a mixture of the Screamscape proposed layout, the one we saw on the NL recreation, and then that Amusement Park magazine layout sketch, whatever that magazine was called. Pretty much the logic we've been throwing around with all these ideas.

"The plans describe a coaster 4,200 feet long." That's probably wrong in the article.

I think it will be Leviathan.

Raging Bull is even 5057 feet long according to the RCDB. Goliath La Ronde is listed at 4038' 9". There has got to be no MCBR if this is the length.

Leviathan, even I can't say it too well. Can you imagine the GP? "L-Thang."

Leviathan. That's just epic. But we need to think that it needs to fit KI's themes. It can't just be a name that doesn't fit the park theme.

I heard that this thing will be called Mustang. It would make sense since Cedar Fair has been going on a Wild West rampage lately with names (Renegade, Maverick, Pony Express).

If this turns out to be true, this will be great for the park since it could become the only great steel coaster in the park (I know they have some good ones, but I've never heard anything about a great one).

Mustang would be a cool name. I don't think it will be called Behemoth only because of the teaser signs at the park.

How about copyright infringement laws with Ford? I wonder if that will be a problem, so I'm doubting the name being Mustang.

4,200ft for a Hyper sounds kinda short IMO. I've heard that it will be called Fugitive. It says it will start by Eiffel Tower, I heard that it was all in Riverview.

Btw Canobie Coaster, when did they name a ride Rampage?

Looking at the construction site, the station will most likely be located near Wings Buffet. I wonder if they will use the building accoss from Wild Thornberry area.

Goliath @ SFMM Is: 4,500
Goliath @ SFoG Is: 4,480
Behemoth Is: 5,318

Anyway my point is i agree. 4200ft is a very short hyper,

You'll find me there next year as well. Maybe i'll look for a monday to go so it won't be so crowded plus every other coaster will be dead.

I have also been wanting to give SOB a 2nd chance now that the loop it gone.

I still hope that 4,200ft is a typo. Thats one small Hyper.

Goliath @ SF0G was awesome so this could be too.

So if it is really 4,200 with three helixes, realistically with 2 Goliath like downward helixes, which I will really look forward to, and a small helix before the splashdown, how much space does that leave us for airtime hills? I expect probably just one after the lift, then a downhill helix, the turnaround then a series of small hills. bet at least 2 before the final small helix to the splashdown.

Maybe it will have a Lift similar to Dive Machine Coasters instead of a Regular 20-50 Degree Lift Hill.

I'm just excited that Hypers are finally working their way through the former Paramount Parks.

Carowinds could be next since Great America is getting the woodie next year & KD just got Dominator.

The design looks ok but the splashdown looks to be the only unique thing about the ride.
