News: Girl dies a week after riding Adventuredome coaster

Posted at 4:30 PM EDT (2030 GMT)

Jul. 24th, 2008 -- A 12-year-old girl who had a heart attack on a coaster at Adventuredome has died.

Catlynne Shaw's father, Eric Shaw, said her brain was depleted of oxygen, and it swelled and was too much for her body to handle. She died Tuesday.

Catlynne was in a coma and in critical condition days after the July 17 incident.

After her ride, a portable defibrillator helped stabilize her until paramedics arrived.

^No offense, but your post has almost nothing to do with the article. It's about the death of a teen on a coaster, not praising a coaster for the great ride and experience it gives off.

Its sad that this had to happen, especially to somebody so young.

See...

This is the kind of story where I actually feel sorry for the kid.
The BTR incident a few weeks ago, that was a purely stupid person doing something that even a mentally retarded person wouldn't do.

It sounds like she had some hidden condition that suddenly showed. At least she was having fun right before the heart attack. That's better than AIDs or something like that.

I just wish she wasn't so young.

Die doing what you love??

Anyhow, it sucks to see heart conditions this young. And it furthers my comments about getting a complete EKG, MRI, CAT scans as well as the obligatory doctor visit before you visit a park.

Sad isn't it?

It was extremely hot in Vegas that week. I wonder if heatstroke or dehydration played some role in this incident.

Tragic. You wonder what is the underlying cause here. What make some people supseptable to this.

My prayers are with the family.
