News: Big Dipper's future still shaky

Posted at 10:51 PM EDT (0251 GMT)

Jul. 24th, 2008 -- The future of Geauga Lake's Big Dipper coaster is still in doubt after it was sold at auction.

Tom Woosnam of a moving company made the only bid for the coaster. He bought it for $5,000. He said he was acting on behalf of a company that wanted to move and preserve the ride.

Plans for the coaster were never announced, and Woosnam has tried to market it to preservation groups.

The American Coaster Enthusiasts wanted the ride and to stay and planned with a developer to build a coaster museum and shops, entertainment and dining on the lake. But the developer withdrew its offer after the coaster had been sold.

Woosnam offered to donate the coaster to ACE if ACE paid his company to disassemble it. ACE doesn't plan on accepting the offer.

Dipper hasn't been touched yet. I think the buyer is still trying to unload it in some way.

Double Loop is gone, Villain is being torn up as we speak, Raging Wolf Bobs is prepared and has started some demolition. Head Spin has been dismantled.

There is a guy that has posted demo pics. Here is the link to them.

I know where it can go to and still be working in a park in Ohio. Zoombezi Bay waterpark next to the Columbus Zoo. They have the room for it and it can still run. Only thing is will they take it if it was offered to them? Its a good park to go to and it will draw alot of people. They have the Sea Dragon coaster also. It use to be the old water park that Six Flags owned and let go down the drain before the zoo took over and made it better. It would still be in Ohio and will keep alot of people happy that its still running and kept up. The zoo has a old restored Merry-Go-Round also. Just a thought on where it should go. :)

When I drove past GL last week Double Loop was gone, but I couldn't tell if Villain was being demolished or not. Depending on how I sleep tonight, I'll take another quick trip up there tomorrow.
