News: Kings Island announces Diamondback

Posted at 2:36 PM EDT (1836 GMT)

Aug. 6th, 2008 -- Kings Island announced that it is building Diamondback, a 230-foot-tall B&M hypercoaster for the 2009 season.

The first drop will be 215 feet, and the ride will have 10 drops over more than a mile of track, 5,282 feet. Diamondback will go 80 mph.

Each of its three trains will have eight cars with four seats. The seating arrangement will be the same as Behemoth at Canada's Wonderland, with two outside seats set back for a better view.

Diamondback will be Kings Island's tallest and fastest roller coaster. It is expected to open in April.

Wow, that's one of the longer B&M hypers too i think.

I might actually consider going back tot he park next year for this...and to get the Firechicken credit.

It looks a little like Behemoth except with a splash down.

Looks interesting.

I am excited beyond belief. Kings Island has needed a standout attraction for a long time, and this is finally it. This should be a hit. It looks great.

Yeah that is one of the longer B&M hypers. I believe Nitro is still the longest by a few feet. Nice to see that KI is FINALLY adding a new and well worth it coaster to their stable. I can't wait to make it out there again sometime soon. The name I'm not too fond of, I mean aren't there better snake names? lol But that's irrelevent, I can't wait to ride it.

Yeah, there's no way it was in the 4,300ft range or whatever number we saw before.

Looks like a great ride and like it could provide some nice night rides in all those trees (if they don't cut too many down to build the ride).

I'm excited about this ride. It looks great and I'm sure it will be. Next year, I think I'll want to pay KI a return visit.

Who ever thought B&M would grow so keen of splash downs. I bet it saves them a bunch on the extra magnetic brakes that would be needed without it.

The layout reminds me of Silverstar. Looks good.

The splash down could be cool provided its anywhere near a walkway for guest to get wet if they wanted to.

That was cool.

I have never see a park use thise before to show off a new coaster.

Awesome idea though and i wish the real coaster went that fast through its course.

I definately have to get down to KI next year. I still haven't ridden SOB or Firehawk so this is just more incentive.

I have ridden Firehawk but it was know as X-Flight then but i have not ridden SOB since the loop was removed so i look foward to that as well and the lines will all be short since everyone will run to Diamondback first thing.

Ugh, I like the layout and the design, but come on, every coaster in the world looks like a snake. Can we not come up with something better than Diamondback?

Speaking of splashdowns - why is there only one coaster that goes under water? That would be a treat.
