News: Holiday World dropping hints

Posted at 3:26 PM EDT (1926 GMT)

Aug. 12th, 2008 -- The folks at Holiday World

Splashin’ Safari are at it again.  The hints of next year’s attraction have started dropping, you might say.

Whatever the park is adding next year, seems to be tall and involve a drop of some sort.

The park already has a small drop tower, maybe they will go taller.  It could be a coaster, but according to an Evansville Courier & Press article, the park has budgeted $8.4 million for improvements in 2009.  The article also says that construction stakes have started popping up on the east side of Voyage.

Whatever will be landing at Holiday World next year will be announced August 26.

I'm going to say it's an A.R.M. drop tower. They're 120 feet tall and amazing. The one at Castles 'n' Coasters is the best I've been on. Smaller parks are building these, so it seems like it could be the perfect choice for Holiday World.

But they have Liberty Launch which is a S&S Double Shot. So my guess is Speed Slides for the Waterpark or a DH Morgan/ Intamin like Coaster. It could also be a EuroFighter?

A Morgan/Intamin coaster would cost about $12-15 million or more, due to the cost of steel. You can't even build an Intamin Twisted Impulse for $10 million now. For the price range (I would figure $6-7 million), they could go Zamperla, Mack, Gerstlauer, S&S, or another manufacturer that has built good coasters.

I sincerely doubt it would be a drop tower, given it's relative proximity to Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom, and the fiasco with their Intamin drop tower there. There are other rides with perceived drops to them.

I'm thinking this will not be a coaster, especially a steel one. I'm not going to make any guesses at all really. They don't need another coaster yet. They need some more thrilling flats to balance out the coasters first.
