News: Cedar Fair holding on Geauga Lake land sale

Posted at 3:15 PM EDT (1915 GMT)

Aug. 22nd, 2008 -- Cedar Fair said the two bids it got for the land on which Geauga Lake sat were not high enough.

Cedar Fair Chief Executive Dick Kinzel said he thinks the land is worth more than what the two bids were.

The land is more than 500 acres. Cedar Fair closed Geauga Lake amusement park in 2006 and removed and auctioned off rides. It now only runs the water park Wildwater Kingdom on the site.

A residential developer and a commercial developer have made bids on sections of the land, but Kinzel is "not optimistic" about a deal.

I don't know. I could understand holding out until he gets what he wants for the land..

I don't think he's asking for more than it's worth plus they have alot of debt so i personally would not let the land go for less than it's worth.

That is assuming he wants what it's worth and he's not trying to get more than it's worth.

I think this is smart on his part because he knows if anyone wants the land real bad that they will pay a high price. Housing on this land price wise maybe looking at $300,000 maybe per house cause of where its at.

If Kinzel was smart, he'd just give the land to the city of Bainbridge. They want to preserve the area and run a city owned small park....

A smart man never gives away anything that he paid $145 million on.
