Posted at 6:41 PM EDT (2241 GMT)

Sep. 15th, 2008 -- The Six Flags chain announced today additions and changes at many of its parks for 2009

Six Flags Over Georgia's Monster Plantation will be renovated and renamed to Monster Mansion. The attraction, which opened in 1981, features music, animatronics and a family-friendly story. It will be changed to have new characters interactive elements and a new story.

Six Flags New England announced changes to Superman - Ride of Steel. The Intamin steel hypercoaster will get renovated trains and have effects added to the ride. The effects include fog, fire and audio.

Six Flags Fiesta Texas will get Wiggles World, an interactive area for children. The area will have rides, a play structure, food and live entertainment. One ride will be a coaster.

Six Flags St. Louis announced additions to Hurricane Harbor for its 10th season and the amusement park. Hurricane Harbor will get Wahoo Racer, a six-lane racing water slide. Six Flags St. Louis will hold Glow in the Park, a night parade. The parade will have six floats and 65 performers decorated in lights.

Six Flags Over Texas also is getting the Glow in the Park parade. The Gary Goddard Entertainment team is helping with the parade, and Cirque Du Soleil’s chief composer is producing the music for the parades.

The Great Escape announced a drop ride and a holiday event. Sasquatch will have two 192-foot-tall towers that will drop riders down in under three seconds. Holiday in the Park will celebrate winter holidays with shows, carolers, Santa and a sledding hill. The park also is remodeling Beer Garden and changing the cafeteria-style setting to a food court.

Monster Plantation was cheesy, but I liked it the way it was. I hope they don't ruin it.

And is plantation not PC anymore or something?

Dear Six Flags,

Please just sell SFA already. You clearly don't care about the park and I'd rather see it prosper under someone who has some ability to properly operate the park then continue to be run into the ground by you.

Sincerely,
A costumer for a decade and stockholder for several seasons who is pissed off

I'm very excited about the unexpected Monster Plantation refurb at SFOG. Totally caught me off guard!

SFA is only within the range of CGA and Dorney. They're not out to overtake KD or BGE but sit pat in the big DC/Maryland burbs. If they didn't have that SLC and had more mature trees to add to the atmosphere, SFA would be in my better graces. Their woodies duo is awesome. Way better than SFNE's.

I figured the Great Escape towers would be the SFNO ones. If they didn't go to Great Escape I bet we would have had a shot to get them at SFGADV. At least 3 towers would better serve us. The name is great for the park that's trying to stay underneath the full Six Flags tag. I loved that location for the Rainbow. It'll look dominating right there over the roadway.

I was excited to hear Monster Plantation will go under a major rehab. I can't wait to see just what they do with it and i guess i'll have to make a trip to see it.

Whoa no hype for TGE? 200 ft. drop tower sounds pretty enticing to me.

Great escape could use a good drop tower. They haven't had one since stuntmans free fall. This was an Intamin 1st gen that now seemd to be a dying breed.

Just curious as to why SFNE would change SROS to add effects to it? Is it that boring with all that airtime to need special effects?

New trains? Like El Toro? Or something else?

Gang, that's actually the one pick Amusement Today got right. I respected that choice for multiple years.

The fire seems like an operational waste. Restoring the tunnel fog and perhaps putting LED chase lights like on Maverick would be a better choice.

For those of you complaining your sixflags park didn't get anything, wait... I didn't see any coasters announced. I don't think the whole chain will be void of any new coasters. I forsee a new coaster popping up in the SF chain, and probably where you wouldn't expect it. SFGam will not get a coaster but I see improved waterpark additions and childrens amenities...

I hope SROS isn't getting OTSRs. Then again, it's possible, especially with the new Intamin trains appearing all over the place. I hope it's just some minor changes.

The towers for the Great Escape are so far the best additions released. they really needed a ride of that level at the park. Not a fan of the name though.

Fiesta Texas IMO has always stood out of all the Six Flags Parks because the park has no Kids Area but the kids rides are all spread out throughout the park.

Six Flags St. Louis NEEDS a B&M mega coaster! Six Flags St. Louis has really improved since 2006, with the new children's section, Superman Tower of Power, and Evel Knievel. What they need is a big steel coaster-which they do not have (and Mr. Freeze does not count).
