News: SFMM to announce new ride this week

Posted at 2:17 AM EDT (0617 GMT)

Oct. 22nd, 2008 -- Six Flags Magic Mountain will announce its 2009 ride this week.

Terminator: The Coaster, a Great Coasters International wooden coaster, will have a 100-foot lift hill, five hills, six banked turns and a station fly-through over 2,850 feet.

The woodie will be built next to Deja Vu on the spot where Psyclone previously stood. Psyclone was torn down in early 2007.

Concept art released shows a twisting first drop, two stations or roofed areas, high banked turns and a figure-eight helix.

Stay tuned for the official announcement.

Horrible name.

2,850 feet is really short. Hurler is longer than this thing.

Let's not count this ride out already. Granted 2,850 feet is short but lets think about another GREAT coaster out there that is rather short. Thunderhead is only 400 feet longer than this and I surely wouldn't call that a boring ride in the least. Oh and another bit of trivia..... same company building it. So I actually look forward to this ride and being able to make it out to the west coast again.

Sounds like a fun coaster. Don't care for the name though.

GCI does excellent work. However, I'm not that comfortable with the fact that they're trying to tie it into the Terminator franchise, and feel that the licensing fees would be better spent on putting in a flat ride or two at the park. Just my $.02.

But honestly, renegade was only 6.5 mil and is longer. So they are spending about 4 mil on scenery. Doing extensive theming on a woody just doesn't seem very efficient. Wood doesn't go well with sci fi, IMO.

They kept Deja Vu so this thing had to take Pscylone's old area.

Exterminator and Terminator. Interesting. If any part of the ride has red LED diodes as part of the theming they should keep it in case the ride gets a demonic new name.
