News: Thunderhead opens to rave reviews

Posted at 3:15 PM EDT (1915 GMT)

Apr. 5th, 2004 -- The new anchor of Dollywood's Thunderhead Gap is already a big hit after just one weekend. Thunderhead, the new monster terrain wooden roller coaster, has arrived.

While the weather didn't cooperate, the ride opened anyway. The new wooden coaster is built between two mountains, which allowed designer Mike Boodley to design a unique layout with GCII's comfortable Millenium Flyer trains.

The fourth annual Festival of Nations also kicked off over the weekend, and it runs through May 9th.

I don't need a new coaster to visit that park. Dolly is absolutely smoking!!! I'd go there just to see her!!!

LOL! Yah, the times that she's there!!^__^

I think this coaster is great, even without riding it. But on it, I'm sure it's a mini Beast! It won't be too long until my but is in one of those seat! W00T W00T! :-)

I know it's been a while since this has been in the news but I have to say this is an AWESOME wooden roller coaster my favorite still. I can definetly see why it won the Golden Ticket for being the best wooden roller coaster in the world in 2005.
