News: Woman Falls from Dollywood Express

Posted at 7:46 PM EDT (2346 GMT)

Apr. 15th, 2004 -- A woman who fell from the Dollywood Express, the park's steam train, has been released from the UT Medical Center today.

The woman, who was not identified, was noted to be someone from out of state and fell from the moving train when she lost her balance after someone spilled a drink on her.  Investigators found nothing mechanically unsound with the train.

The ride was shut down immediately after the incident, but was reopened today.

I was at the park today and the train was open with people in it (of course). I didn't ride the train, but everything looked to be fine from what I saw.

Maybe now they won't allow food or drinks on the train because of what happened.

A better idea would be to try and add some hand guard rails.......

Can you even imagine how embarassing it must be to have fallen off the train?
I imagine this lady's friends and family will be razzing her for awhile, since it sounded like she didn't get hurt. :)

Why don't they have a better way of keeping the people inside of the train?

^ This is just a guess, but I'd think that it might have to do something with the speed (or lack of) the train travels and riding in an open car is more pleasurable.

Sounds like the park may have a lawsuit on there hands...

There is no way you could accidently fall off that train. I rode it today, and I noted the fact that the end panels on the cars would stop you from acciidently falling out. Just a guess, but maybe the woman done it on purpose.

^ I really doubt she did it on purpose. She may have been more concerned with her clothing and simply didn't pay attention.

People do bad things in some cases to sue someone. It may have been a accident, but I still have my doubts.

The woman wouldn't really have a case if she did want to take action. The State determined that Dollywood was in no way responsible for the accident.

Also, the train cars have had the open sided arrangement for the last 18 years, and this is the first time anybody has ever fallen off.

Other theme parks that have similar open-sided railroad equipment include the Disney Parks, Cedar Point, Busch Gardens, and Kings Island.

True, but I still find it hard to fall off the train.
